They're hitting the states hard ala fellow Ontarians PUP and the Nil: they play tomorrow at a festival in the West Loop and then the Flats show just over a week later lol

Yea I just saw today that they're playing here tomorrow. May have to go check it out.

Just so I know, can anyone going to the pizza buffet like this post so I can get an idea?

It said on the FB event that they sell out every year. I don't know if I'm in a bubble or not but three people I'm hanging with from Cleveland bought tix, @Michael Schmidt has a ticket, and like 4-5 in here so I feel like there's some hype behind it haha

I'm gonna grab mine tomorrow probably. More than anything I'm trying to convince my friends I'm going down with to come with me. There's enough for me to go because of all the Chorus friends, but I need to make sure that, even if they can't go, I can get back.

So ever since someone mentioned the weather the other day the computer models have consistently shifted the remnants of Irma increasingly westward towards Illinois mid to late next week.

Maybe it's all just a coincidence or maybe the Riot Fest gods are punishing us for discussing the weather lol

  10. I am here to guarantee that this year will have perfect weather - you are welcome for this assurance. If this turns out to not be true on you can meet me at the pizza party and punch me square in the face.

wasn't the weather great last year?

  12. We're one week away! What sets/moments are you all most excited for? My top 3 are probably: Jawbreaker, Menzingers, and Paramore (honorable mention to Pkew Pkew Pkew though, that's legit gonna be one of the funnest nights of all time I think)

I'm especially excited to sing the line from the Menz' Midwestern States, "AND I KNOWWWWWWWW SOMEWHERE IN CHICAGO" with everyone. That band has become such an important part of mine and my friends' life, we've been listening to it nonstop since it came out and there's nowhere in the world I'd rather be than Chicago seeing the Menzingers with them (and thousands of others!)

Yea it rained a really tiny bit early Friday last year (I was watching Citizen so the rain actually helped the experience), but I think that was about it.

They did Midwestern States when they were here in March, and I can confirm it's as fun as it sounds.

Paramore is my #1 most anticipated. So ready to see these new songs come to life. Also really really excited about Queens of the Stone Age. Vic Mensa will be a ton of fun on Friday. It'll be interesting to see if he brings anyone out. FIDLAR was a great time at Lolla, so I'm really pumped to see them again. The one two punch of Say Anything into the Menzingers seems specifically designed to maximize my enjoyment.

And the pizza party, of course.

One thing about being in your 30s is that you lose the stamina to run around festivals all day seeing every act and aftershows are a younger man's game. Y'all have fun at the pizza party!

Top 3 would probably be The Flats (never seen them before and will see them twice), MIA/Paramore (never seen either of them) and The Menz of course (b/c they are my favorite current band).

Honorable mentions for the Smith Street Band, Larry Arms, and QOTSA, none of whom I've seen either

This is a good question! My top anticipated moments...

Jawbreaker: An all-time top 10 favorite band since 2002. And one that I never thought I'd get to see live. Honestly, they're the only reason I booked a trip to the festival this year.

The Lawrence Arms: Oh!! Calcutta! is an all-time favorite album for me, and they're an all-time favorite band. This is a no-brainer.

Radar State: I've loved the two tracks they've released to date. Really curious to see how they fill their 30 minute set. I'm hoping for a few more new songs, a Get Up Kids cover, an Anniversary cover, and maybe some other random cover.

    Turnspit:
I have been obsessed with this band the last few weeks.

Prophets of Rage: Saw them in Boston last night, and while they put on an amazing club show, something tells me that seeing them in a festival setting will be super fun. Everybody in the band is a performer.

Mad Caddies: Just because it's been years since I've seen them live. Recent set lists have been lackluster, but I'm still excited.

Taking Back Sunday (after show): I left the Boston date of their summer tour after Every Time I Die (in favor of seeing the Flatliners and Pkew Pkew Pkew at another venue), so I was bummed when I saw they were up against QOTSA. I've never seen them in a venue this small, so... It'll be really fun.

I'm also really looking forward to seeing the Menzingers, Beach Slang, Hot Water Music, New Found Glory, and the Flatliners but I've seen those bands so many times at this point that they can't really be considered "highlights" for me.

Hah, I feel that! I'm 33 with a packed schedule each day, and planning on attending an aftershow every night that I'm there... To say I'm nervous about it would be an understatement.

    My most anticipated:

The Lawrence Arms - Oh Calcutta is one of my favorite albums and I always have a great time seeing them. They're especially great at Riot Fest every time.

The Menzingers - My favorite band and always the best band

Streetlight Manifesto - My first favorite band and I rarely get to see them anymore

Culture Abuse - Hoping for a great crowd

Paramore - I've barely seen them and it's been like 6 years. After Laughter is phenomenal

Jawbreaker - I think it's going to be awesome watching a bunch of really excited punks seeing one of their favorite bands again and it should just be a great set

FIDLAR or Bayside - Still undecided but either one will be great. Walking Wounded is a great record and FIDLAR put on the most fun set at Riot Fest two years ago.

And then obviously the pizza party. I saw PKEW and Flats together in July but I think this will be way better. PKEW is my current favorite drinking band, The Flatliners are one of my top 10 all time favorite bands and it's my birthday

Wound up picking up a ticket to that Saturday show. The line-up looks solid overall, but if the Flats don't wind up playing I'll be pretty bummed (though I think they're a lock, at this point). Haha.
