deguasser and YWK are the songs that I'm pretty sure anyone who likes this record loves. JESUS deserves high praise as well but it isn't as dynamic as the other two.

 

Eh, I'd say "Not the Sun" feels more out of place. I dunno, there's just something about the last chorus of Archers where the drum pattern changes that puts a big smile on my face every time.

 

lol none of those songs sound like they should be on deja, real bad take. Archers is a straight ahead Alt Rock song, definitely would feel out of place on deja.

 

Despite my previous comment, the writings on the wall, Jesus or Degausser will win this round...unless YWK makes a comeback in the next couple of hours.

 

Not the Sun's bridge is a top moment for this band btw

 

it may, a lot of YWK supporters coming out of the wood works to save the song.

Luca: one of the first Brand New songs I learned on guitar, and I genuinely think the song is so perfect that very little can stand in it's way. Like, I used to be iffy on the lyrics but ultimately everything about the atmosphere of the song and the tone it sets makes it work for me. Also the Luca bomb fucking slays

Jesus: when people talk about the vibe tdag has, Jesus might be the first song I think of. Perfect encapsulation for me because while the loud parts are prominent, the sound and vibe is the most consistent thread running through the album.

Limo: I think this might've been this band's most successfully ambitious song to date (you were a good try, Good To Know). I like that as an emo band, one of their most poignant and emotional songs is one that didn't happen to any of them. It's this hyper specific universal quality that I think makes the lyrics so affecting to me. Also the song structure of it is just so cool.

Sowing Season: this song served a similar function to the tautou/sic transit combo and did it in one song. This band is incredible and the demos version shows how beautiful it can be too. It's simple, but the chord progression really matches the progression of the lyrics for me, especially the air of exhausted acceptance.

You Won't Know: degausser makes strong claim for favorite a lot of the time but that ultimately goes to You Won't Know. I've talked about it before, but the part where the whole band comes in loud as god and twice as wrathful is the moment I fell in love with this album and they cemented themselves as the most important band for me. I genuinely think the riff running through it is one of the greatest I've heard. Bury me with You Won't Know.

Would agree Not the Sun bridge is one of the best parts of the record, but it doesn't make the rest of the song any less meh.
