God bless you. I can't keep up with that many partial sets. It drives me crazy not being able to just stay and enjoy the entire thing. More power to you if you can fit more in though.

Yeah it's annoying for sure but for the most part I get to see all the full sets I want to aside from Bayside/FIDLAR

A lot of the back and forth partials probably won't happen when I'm actually there anyway haha

Haha yea the trick is always actually sticking to the schedule you make. Sometimes you just don't know until you're there what you really want to do.

I still don't know I'm gonna play out the MIA/Paramore overlap, considering MIA will prob play her hits towards the end

I'm hoping the festival layout doesn't totally fuck-up my plans. Hah. There's a few instances where I want to pop over to the smaller stage to see a band, then right back over to the main stage for something... So I hope it's a relatively quick/easy walk wherever that winds up being.

The good thing about this year: I'm going it alone, so I can readily run between stages as necessary without worrying about others keeping up. Haha.

I hope it's similar to last year. First time in a while where the layout worked for me.

Going alone to fests like this is the best. No worrying about keeping anyone else happy, you just get to do your own thing. Luckily I have a good friend to go to Riot Fest with, but other people always end up ruining parts of other fests (Lollapalooza, Pitchfork) for me. Maybe I'm just a grumpy person idk

I'm going alone to Riot Fest this year too and am pretty excited about it.

    It's chaos. Be kind. Prestigious

Thursday: Matchbox 20 / Counting Crows. They're playing a Casino about 10 minutes from my parent's house where I'll already be that night (I'm from Michigan).

Friday: Seaway --> Four Year Strong --> The Hotelier --> State Champs (what's left) --> Death from Above --> The Story So Far (what's left) --> Mayday Parade --> A Day to Remember

Friday (after fest): New Found Glory w/ Bayside & Radar State

Saturday: The Smith Street Band --> Knuckle Puck (first half) --> Peaches (second half) --> Bayside --> Bad Brains (what's left) --> The Lawrence Arms (?) --> New Found Glory (until 7:40) --> At the Drive In (until 8:15) --> Streetlight Manifesto --> Taking Back Sunday (what's left)

Saturday (after fest): If I'm still alive at this point, I might do the pizza buffet.

Sunday: Beach Slang --> Real Friends --> Say Anything (until MMB starts) --> The Mighty Mighty Bosstones --> The Menzingers --> Built to Spill (what's left) --> Minus the Bear --> Dinosaur Jr. --> Prophets of Rage (first couple songs) --> Paramore --> Andrew WK (what's left) --> Jawbreaker (what's left)

Sunday (after fest): Probably nothing? Unless something amazing pops up.

If you're into the Menzingers and the Smith Street Band, I'd suggest spending 12-1:15 watching RVIVR and Turnspit. Turnspit's EP (and everything they've released to date, TBH) is worth checking out. They remind me a bit of Samiam or Fifth Hour Hero. Found out about them when they opened up one of the Larry Arms' December shows a few years back and have never been able to see them so... I'm really looking forward to it!

For 2-2:30, I'd suggest Fishbone. They always put on a great show.

For 12-1:45, I'd say you might want to give Engine 88 a shot, as well as Upset. Upset's a pretty cool band. Can't vouch for how they are live, but I really dug their 2015 record.

Anybody else read the Alternative Press oral history piece on Riot Fest that they posted today? Some interesting stuff in there (that I'm sure some folks already know, but it was news to me).

In particular, that while they were already kind of talking about trying to grow in size that wanting to book Rise Against seemed to be the impetus for it.

It has been cool to watch it grow/diversify over the years (and in some years--shrink in size). I first went in 2012, but was familiar with it for a few years prior... But at that point it felt like the Fest but with significantly fewer bands I was into seeing, so I just went to that instead. It's grown into a unique, one-of-a-kind festival in my opinion. I'm really surprised nobody has tried to do anything similar (or well, tried and been successful at it -- I heard When We Were Young Fest was kind of a bust in terms of ticket sales).

I attended the very first one in 2005. It's awesome to see what the fest has become.

I've gone every year since it moved outdoors, although in 2012 I literally just showed up for the Chiodos reunion on Sunday and left, which I still regret to this day but I was young and dumb I guess.

Simpler times, simpler times. Haha. I remember who I watched that year. And mostly, I regret not watching Slapstick. In hindsight, I would still probably watch all of the bands I watched back then...

Except that I wouldn't have bothered watching Imagine Dragons at 12 noon.

Haha I actually really regret not going to Imagine Dragons, because I actually liked them at the time and it would've been cool to say I saw one of the biggest bands in the world play a half hour opening set at Riot Fest in 2012. It didn't help that my friend didn't want to stay and I was not as in to actively seeking out new music, so I just knew ADTR and didn't want to sit around for 2 hours waiting for them. Oh well, you live and you learn.

It's definitely crazy to think how far this has come though, and it's really interesting because it really is the only really big punk festival in the country. I can't really think of anything else comparable to it that's the same size. When We Were Young is the only thing even close, and like someone said, that didn't really do great. Hell even Riot Fest in other states doesn't seem to work out. Maybe Chicago is just more friendlier than most cities for this type of music?

I guess Bamboozle/Skate & Surf was kind of doing something similar.
