It's only briefly mentioned in Doug's post on Instagram.

Going from their records with Doug, that honestly got them their start, to an instrumental trio? I would be shocked if this didn't hit them hard for the next album cycle.

    Were they particularly big before?

Not at all. They had a small following in the Fullerton area as "The Sound Archives" because they sounded like Glassjaw with their original vocalist but that was it. The Sleeping was a much bigger band than NV ever was too (still to this day).

So I don't think losing Doug will be a big hit to them, with regards to popularity

I think it will hurt in whatever gains they would of had coming off of Into The Vanishing Light. Like I feel like if they had momentum following that, it's kind of shot.

Bands like Animals as Leaders do plenty fine and draw MASSIVE audiences worldwide without a vocalist.

But they didn't have much momentum coming off of that record, so it's moot

I feel like a lot of AAL fans are people into odd time sigs, complex composition etc, Night Verses cannot hang with that crowd IMO

will be interesting to see what they do instrumentally. will have to switch it up a bit to keep it interesting imo, but I could see them doing something similar-ish to Irepress. I think they can make it fine without a vocalist.

I mean, sure, but nowhere near the level of Animals As Leaders.

So for whatever reason I completely wrote off their newest record when it came out. I decided to give it a listen after the new Glassjaw album and holy shit I can't believe I missed out on the hype for these guys. The vocalist had one of the most commanding presences on a post hardcore album that I've heard which is saying something considering the musicians' prowess. I'm gonna miss him for sure.

Doug is a force to be reckoned with. He was a perfect match with NV and it’s such a bummer they parted ways.

One of the saddest news I’ve heard in the musician realm in 2017..

Ugh imagining Doug’s vocals on this make me die a little on the inside.

Musically, this is EXACTLY what Vanishing Light should have been. You can thank Ross Robinson for that one. What a has-been.

Anyways, this sounds insane as hell (in a good way) but I can never get into a full record from an instrumental band. My loss, I suppose. Still extremely bummed about Doug and I don’t think that will ever change.

New tunes sound sick as fuck, there's no other way to describe it- it just does, but imagining this with Doug's vocals makes me heartbroken.

    It would have been perfect.

Production is infinitely better on these new jams. As I said a few posts ago, fuck Ross Robinson.

nah Into The Vanishing Light is nearly perfect

Into The Vanishing Light (while I agree is good in its own right) was the wrong follow up for the magnificent Lift Your Existence.

Also, Aric hinted that the record wasn’t what they wanted since Ross chose all their slower songs and none of their faster/heavier stuff. Hence the huge shift.

This new music is what I imagined a proper follow up to LYE would have sounded like and these jams with Doug’s vocals? Easily would have been the band’s best stuff to date.
