Washington moved up a spot to #7.....which is odd because I was sure they'd drop down to 10 or 11.

We reach for the longest shadow

Auburn is at 13, which is fine. if we beat Clemson we'll undoubtedly move up.

I have never understood the idea of not "punishing" teams for winning. What's the point of rankings then?

Wisconsin moving down is horseshit. Yeah, I get it, Michigan beat Florida...but you should not get jumped after winning by 49.

My bad, they didn't move down, thought they were at 8 before. I see now FSU fell further than I expected.

    Why not?

I just don't think you should suffer when you beat an opponent that handily. If they had only beaten Utah State like 24-10, then sure I'd say they deserve it. But if you win as convincingly as they did (despite taking a while to get going), you shouldn't be passed by a squad several spots lower.

I'm not sure it's "suffering" when it's week two. I also wouldn't call tied at halftime "convincing." Like yeah, they went and made adjustments and came out strong. But why should Michigan be punished for a more consistent performance against a better team?

They shouldn't, I still think they should have moved up (in fact, I'd have been tempted to have both Wisconsin and Michigan jump Washington). I guess my thought process is: what changed in week 1 that now Michigan is considered better? Neither team's result in week 1 was very surprising imo.

Oh yeah, Washington moving up is a joke haha.

Yeah, once Michigan had already jumped Wisconsin I see zero justification for them still being below Washington.

A few people put UW at #4, including a Bama beat writer lol.

    I am here for this.

The people putting Wisconsin at 16 and 17 can fuck right off.

I could understand if Taggert only had one program he rebuilt on his resume, but it's hard to ignore that he built two separate ones, each with their own challenges. It comes down to your definition of elite, I suppose. To me there's Saban >>>> a group of a half dozen or so of coaches >>> then a large bunch of coaches. Does Taggert being in that third tier, basically a top 8-15 coach in the country make him elite? I think so.

Edit: but I am a mid-major football fan so I will defend those guys almost to the death haha.

If you want to put him in that third tier, I probably wouldn't fight that one to the death. I guess my reservation on him is that before I anoint him as the next great thing, I want to see him develop a P5 program and win with them. He has a lot more at his disposal but the competition is also going to be much more severe.

I'd just like to see him do that before putting him on such an elevated pedestal.

Understandable. He is also at a program which is already in elite territory over the last decade or so. So kids he is recruiting have only known Oregon to be one of the 15 best football teams in the country. I think his path to success is 'easier' in some regard than his other stops have been.

His path to success is 1000x times easier with Uncle Phil and the UNike brand pouring $$$ into the University. That makes the Oregon job and kids attracted to the school.

You go a few hours up north and Chris Petersen has obviously built Washington into what they are but they don't pull 5* kids ever really. I think they've gotten one in the Chris Petersen era (Budda Baker) and struggle to compete with the blue bloods on the west in terms of recruiting the top tier talent.

Having the UNike card to play makes the Oregon job VERY attractive. He's definitely got the tools in place to turn that program around quickly---we will see if that happens.

So, because of the wildfires the Nebraska game may have to be moved. I guess they'll see what happens closer to the game.

I'm assuming the home games for Florida, FSU, FIU, and UCF will all be moved/postponed this weekend as well.

    UCF has already been moved.
