Personally, I find that I can enjoy a band's earlier/rougher material more after having spent time with the later stuff that I love. Like, my first exposure to mewithoutYou was to Brother, Sister and I fell in love with that and then fell in love with CFUTF and then I found myself able to listen to A-B Life. I still don't love that album, but I have an easier time listening to it knowing what they became. There's no right answer here. It's entirely the listener's preference.

Ok? That's completely beside the point.

Some people judge songs before they decide if they want to get into an artist. If that is their way to get into music, power to them. I'm not here to judge how they listen to music, I'm just here to help them hopefully like an artist that I like.

if people asked me where to start with any of those bands I'd say listen to albums 1-4 in order and stop (1-2 for Silverstein)

Completely agree, that's why I think it's fine to ask people familiar with your taste and the band so they're able to give you a somewhat personalized recommendation

This is entirely just your opinion but also it's a correct one

Critical acclaim can be missleading sometimes. Especially if it comes from Pitchfork

There have been plenty of times where I could have googled something but instead I've asked on Chorus just cause forums are fun and interactive :/

It's nobody's battle but your own. Prestigious

Just watched the BN dvd and does Garrett really have a twin brother? I have to find the part and share it in here but yeah certainly seems like it

Edit: he does indeed have a twin brother: Garrett Tierney

The point is that critical acclaim can be missleading. The best way to get into an artist if often asking fellow fans. And if they are people you have known for years whose opinion you trust, that usually goes a lot further than critical acclaim.

Basically the only genre I don't like is Death Metal but I understand that it's just not for me, I wouldn't call it a bad genre myself. Every genre has good and bad artists and that's why no genre is truly bad in my opinion.

fan favorite albums generally line up with critically acclaimed albums, hence why they're critically acclaimed

There are literally white power genres. And yes, they suck.
