I've seen a toddler on dentist office anesthesia make a more logical argument than this.

  2. I remember being 13 and thinking only the vocalist mattered in music too. But I was 13, and very stupid.

    I never broke any rules

But regardless I told people once football season starts (which is next week) I won't be posting here anymore really.

Ill try to "calm down" even though I did nothing wrong just so that I can pop in time to time to hopefully talk about seeing Brand New in Seattle, Portland, and Vancouver next year. *fingers crossed*

All members of a band matter I agree.

    A drummer matters
    A Bassist matters
    A guitarist matters
    A *insert instrument here* matters
    The singer matters

  8. The rule of "don't annoy Jason" is a pretty big one.

Nate Ruess' solo album wasn't very good because he needs solid music partners to push him to his full potential.

He's the only one whose name I know. I think I'd recognize a few other guys, but it would take me a few minutes.

So you don't think that bass lines like the ones in Sic Transit, Jaws Theme, Noro, etc etc are noteworthy and you think playing drums is that easy? Cmon.

Never said playing the drums is easy man

I suck so bad at the drums

This is why they are professional musicians.

this is an interesting direction to take this conversation actually.

    Dustin from Thrice
    Brian from Gaslight
    Ace Enders from Early November
    Nate from Fun
    Patrick Stump from FOB
    guy from IATA

list could go on of people that have put out solo records that arnt nearly as good as the stuff they do with their band mates. thats not even to say its not good music, just most of it isnt as good without their bandmates

ace enders solo might be better than early november but stfu

Vinnie Caruana's (Movielife and IATA) First solo EP was awesome and I implore you to give it another shot.

Also, bring back Miracle of 86!!

The reason Jesse and Vin get to shine and do what they do is because Brian and Garrett are so goddamn good. They are one of the most consistent and steady rhythm sections, and are always fitting to what is needed.

I honestly don't listen to too many bands where the vocalist has solo stuff that doesn't at all compare to the band stuff... That said... David Bazan and Aaron Sprinkle are two guys I can think of who managed to overshadowed their already fantastic band work with their solo work. I'd add Kevin Devine to that, but I don't think Miracle of 86 was ever all that established.

I will say that Vinnie Caruana is best in bands though. Did you ever listen to Peace'd Out?

  24. The Mysterious

Yes...but a thing isn't beautiful because it lasts

Semi-unrelated: Matthew Nicholls plays a more reserved role nowadays with That's the Spirit, but does anyone remember his drumming on There is a Hell... ?

Good stuff, those rolling double pedals.
