The Ringers' website is not as big as people think:

"A spokesperson from Vox claims that The Ringer has 5 million monthly uniques."

AP.net was bigger. Chorus has had bigger months.

The Ringer and Chorus are probably my two most visited sites outside of fantasy sports and social media. But I'd have also guessed The Ringer was bigger. Interesting!

 

I miss Grantland.

The Ringer article made me cringe a bit as well, but I suppose it's from the perspective of someone who hasn't listened to BN since like 2004. Which I'm sure there are plenty of people out there who haven't paid any attention to BN since then. Also, most reviews straight pretend the demos don't exist ha.
I thought maybe this record would get some kind of discussion on The Watch since they have name dropped BN before, but nothing yet.

 

Interpunk has some copies of the red and blue vinyl if anyone still needs one.

 

I thought that too, but maybe they still will, especially since it went number 1 and the site wrote about it.

I’m also surprised Steven Hyden hasn’t brought Ian Cohen on Celebration Rock to talk about it since they both gave the album high praise. But his last 2 episodes were about QOTSA and TWOD, which are certainly much more in his wheelhouse.

 

Yeah, I hope so! I'm curious on what all of their thoughts are regarding the record.

 

Haven't listened to this in about a week, gonna have to change that today. I was trying to give it time to breathe after listening to it like ten times in two days.

 

Yeah I listened to it 6 times the first week, and just twice last week. Really don't want to overdue it. Still really enjoying it a lot tho

I think their have only been two days I haven't listened to it.

Damn, I hope this works. I ordered one from Zia a few days ago and then got an email after the fact saying they couldn't fulfill my order. Hoping this one will actually go through!

I haven't listened to anything but Science Fiction since Aug. 18. Probably have listened at least 60x through start to finish already. Haven't even remotely gotten tired of it. I waited 8 years for this.

 

I listened to most of that podcast with Geoff last night. Really really interesting. I was especially interested in his perception of brand news sound versus Thursday's sound. Like when Geoff said concerning Deja "it's like they were writing these [insert credible respected band] verses, but still writing these Blink 182 choruses", and then he would go onto imply that Deja was almost a guilty pleasure of his.
I'll be honest that was a bit of a head scratcher for me because to me Thursday has always been a band that has really catchy choruses that are "pop sensible" yet outside of the pop realm.
I guess what I'm trying to say is I get the impression that because Geoffs influences in music come from such a heavier and different place from Jesses, it seems like Geoffs perception of his own band was maybe more abrasive than Thursday's sound actually is? That isn't a knock on Thursday. They're one of my favorite bands and Geoffs one of my favorite musicians. I just found it interesting because if you listen to an album like Deja, then an album like WATT or FC, yeah they absolutely sound different but they don't sound so different sonically that you'd be shocked to see them tour together and you'd be surprised to know the lead singer of own of those bands was apprehensive to admit he enjoyed the others music.

Still curious - has anyone considered that this whole 'finished in 2018' thing is just hype?
Could BN be playing up the "We're gonna stay 18 forever" thing? If they're "dead" in 2018, they stay 18 forever.

I've probably listened to this album 15-20 times since it came out, so I'm definitely not coming close to some people in here lol. I listened to it last night, but before that I gave it a 3 day or so break. I've never been the type of listener that can exclusively play one record for longer than a weekend. That's not a knock against this album or any other, but rather the way I listen to music.

 

Also the choruses on deja don't sound like blink haha
