  1. When he says " start work " couldn't that mean just throwing song ideas around and possibly writing ?

Pretty much. He doesn't mean 'we got songs written and start recording'

They have 5 shows in September and will probably do a few spot shows towards the end of the year like they did last year. Hopefully after the September shows we'll get an announcement but I would suspect they will head back into the studio by the end of the year/early next year. Mark has said in the past he wants to go on a 2 year album cycle.

  6. Yesterday "Wildfire" came on on a playlist I had on shuffle, and while it's one of my favorites from CA DLX, it just sounds soooo stale and heartless. I haven't listened to anything from CA/CA DLX in a couple months, so coming back to a song from it randomly was pretty jarring. I think I'd like the songs more with some bass boost and less high end. Those songs make me say:

So, I've been reading rumors that slash is joining blink in the studio, due to his friendship with Travis, and that Rob Cavallo is going to produce.

Nah, I've not been reading that.

I've actually felt the opposite. When the DXL album first came out I think I listened to it 2 or 3 times and then got bored of it. I revisited it a week ago and some of the songs really grew on me more than they had. A song like Parking Lot I feel like is a really fun song and would be great if they played it live but when it first came it I liked it but found it kind of forgettable. Wildfire is another one where I just like it lot more now, its just a good summer song. I've always liked Misery and Long Lost Feeling.

I do agree that most of the songs still lack something and they feel like complete B-sides and glad they decided to release it as a Deluxe Edition instead of a brand new album because it would have been a huge disappointment coming off of California. Heck if they had released the Deluxe Edition as a real album it would probably rank under Neighborhoods but ahead of Cheshire Cat and Buddha for me.

    Misery
    Last Train Home
    6/8
    Good Old Days
    Long Lost Feeling
    Hey I'm Sorry
    Don't Mean Anything At All
    Parking Lot
    Bottom Of The Ocean
    Wildfire

My personal rank of the songs.

The songs are indeed b-side worthy for the most part(minus the first 6 on my list I feel with a little work could be on the album). But that is why this is a deluxe cd, they are complimentary bonus songs. The actual album is the main product; these weren't included for a reason.

But, those first six songs on the list are great. I can listen to them in with the album and it's great. After Hey I'm Sorry on the list, the weaknesses become more visable and can sometimes be jarring. And yes Wildfire is on the bottom of my list, I find it the weakest of the songs with some great riffs that were better used in a different song.

    My ranking would probably be:

    Misery
    Long Lost Feeling
    Hey I'm Sorry
    Parking Lot
    6/8
    Last Train Home
    Wildfire
    Good Old Days
    Don't Mean Anything
    Bottom of the Ocean

I think the first 5 or 6 songs on my ranking are solid and could have been on California and wouldn't seem like a B side or filler. The last 4 are definitely the weaker ones. Wildfire and Good Old Days are fun songs but remind me a bit of Kings of the Weekend/Teenage Satellites part of California, which are fun songs but basically fillers which is why they were probably left off California. Don't Mean Anything is kind of just there for me in that I basically forget it's on the album until it comes on. Bottom of the Ocean is probably the worst song they released with Skiba.

  13. I hope this California era was just an era and not just the new sound/style for the band... I guess if Feldmann produces again, it will at least be 99% similar, but yeah... I'm just not "feeling this" anymore at all, aside from a small handful of songs.

I agree, I liked California for what it was and what it did for the band but I want something new/different for the next album. I also hope they use a different producer or at least have multiple producers for the album.

  17. If "She's Out Of Her Mind" and "Bored To Death" were the only songs I ever hear again from CA/CA DLX, I wouldn't complain at all, and I don't think I'd actually miss anything else from that album, even though there's a handful more songs that I like enough.

After Midnight is such an underrated song, it really should get more love from the fans and the band. Really would love to hear them play it live with Skiba singing it.
