idk in terms of sheer melodic quality i think i prefer oso oso and emperor x this year. i like this album but i still feel like the comfort zone they establish isn't fully utilized. like, one of the best songs on there is brianna's and i get that she's just learning guitar which makes songwriting a challenge but more brianna lead or songs in the vein of Hum would've really helped this album get to be a next level release for them imo

this album has two or three exceptional songs and a whole lot of songs that aren't essential

Yeah I basically think Follows, Escape Plan, June, and Guardian are the only songs I really want to return to. I also like Brass Ring, Favorite and Window a good amount.

I think all of the songs are good, some better than others but they don't feel essential. It's all in a style that's sort of been done before and doesn't bring many new elements to the table. I still really enjoy it though and they do that style really well.

the good on this album is so good that it completely makes up for the slight blemishes it does have.

still kind of baffled at the press running with the whole In Reverie thing and I don't really get strong In Reverie vibes off of this at all

I think it was more of the major label jump/indie emo comparison

which makes perfect sense, but it was like some of them spent enough time on that to draw the parallel and then it would shift really quickly to just ben's love of it and how he loves the songwriting and the chord progressions and etc etc which just made it seem like the actual sound was the focus for him. that being said, im not mad about it, just confused by the way it was framed is all.

Catchy and the drums drive that steady rock beat. Idk it's probably my favorite on the record haha.

Guardian is still one of the best songs of the year. I love it so much.

I haven't returned to this much this summer, but I'm really hoping to attend the fall tour with ManOrch and Foxing. That'll put it and Charmer back in rotation for me.

Follows, Favourite, June, Escape Plan, Guardian, Brass Ring, and Window all fantastic. The others are definitely more forgettable. This is drawing with Charmer for my favourite at the moment.

I wish they would do an acoustic treatment of this record, the full band stuff is cool but a lot of it runs together and the drums actually make the music less interesting at times. I also hope they use this live band on their next record, a few more chefs in the kitchen would do the band good. The end of Window live is really sick, more stuff like that on the record and just more interesting dynamics. I really like the songs but I think those reasons I listed are what hurts them. I think spin is a very concise record and I can respect that, they went for a certain sound and honed it. I guess moving forward I hope they add some more variation to that sound. I also think I like Charmer a lot more than this album more, its just a more interesting record with a lot of great creative tension.

I do think I prefer to this album to Charmer actually, but I agree with everything else you said. They are a lot of fun live.

I'm definitely coming around to this more, but definitely still a bunch of filler.

A lot of lyrical content is hitting me really hard now

Also yeah Window live is incredible

Generally I think the only filler is Oh Time, Same Stone and Make It Up. But yeah, Window is incredible live and should remain in their set forever.

  25. They were so good with Manchester Orchestra. Very tight live set
