My dude, the lyric is actually just "don't apologize, I hope you choke and die." If you think that is stated in a "detailed, poetic way" I'm going to recommend that you read some more poetry.

For me it's really really hard to actually explain. It's not that it sonicly sounds like FOB. It's really in the vocal delivery Jesse uses. It's very much post-hiatus P Stump. The best way I can describe it is it's kind of choppy and almost like the vocals are literally pulling the music forward with them, and it's very bombastic. Maybe that makes sense, maybe it doesn't idk

Yeah, it's just not like that for me. I don't really view straightforward as an attribute that's automatically detrimental to the quality of a song - Taylor Swift is a great example, the vast majority of her music is straightforward pop or country and yet fun seems like such a backhanded compliment to me. So much of her music achieves something significantly more substantial than just fun, and does so within the constructs of straightforward pop. Fwiw I already kinda feel like I'm reading too much into what you said, it just seemed like a good jumping off point for what I was trying to get at initially.

Anyways, totally agreed on Can't Get it Out. The titular line resonates so hard with me too even though I haven't felt anything close to that feeling myself in some time.

I've talked to so many people (well like 3) that have said 451 has a folie/post hiatus vibe to it. That, coupled with a plethora of others on the internet leads me to believe I am not crazy. Idk

I didn't say it was a bad thing, just that I'd rather Brand New not sound like it.

My good man, this is the first time I've disagreed with you. Like I see what people mean about the vocal delivery sounding like Patrick Stump but when I listen to it I don't think Fall Out Boy at all. Maybe one day it will grow on you!!

Yea that's fair. I don't know exactly how to get my point across I guess. Lots of angles to it but reducing Taylor's music to "fun" is a bit of a disservice to her. Plus something can be fun but meaningful at the same time (see: new Kesha album). Basically we're on the same page haha Straightforward does not mean bad or not meaningful.

I said this about 400 pages ago but 451 sounds like a beer commercial song to me. I guess that's not entirely dissimilar to modern FOB.

it's just a damn good beer commercial song so it's fine.

I was thinking it needs to be used for a scene as some army is preparing for war or something. The song is begging to be used as a soundtrack to something.

Well this is canon to me now, for the rest of my life every time I crack open a beer I'm going to listen to this song.

Can you imagine, just take a step back and fucking IMAGINE, thinking that line is "poetic" and identifying with it. God damn. "Maybe in the future I won't wish for people to die" what the actual fuck

The comparison to FOB-like vocals on 451 is pretty accurate. The way the vocal tracks are layered to sound kind of warbly is what really makes that connection for me. And one of the harmonized vocal parts in the chorus that is somewhat buried in the mix almost sounds like Patrick Stump could be singing it himself.

Like it's been said, it doesn't sound like a FOB song, but the vocals aren't far off.

Did I actually read someone say "there are several people I know who I would not be upset about if they died in car wrecks"?

Like I'm sorry you feel anger and sadness. Lots of people do. But wanting people to die, or not caring if people die is messed up. That's something you should seek help for because wanting another human being to die or not being upset if someone else died is not a healthy way of living. Again I get that your 16 and going through your teenage angst phase but this is seriously messed up.

There is absolutely NOTHING poetic about that line. And there is NOTHING poetic about wanting somebody else to die. Think about it, that song is about wanting someone to die because they made out with the writers girlfriend... how is that poetic?

I've always interpreted it as comedic hyperbole since he's talking to his friend.

I don't think I'd be able to listen to it otherwise tbh

The lyrics are clever, but they're not deep

Their techs help fill in on guitar and percussion during songs that require it. I'm guessing they'll also have someone play trumpet for this run of shows.

just realized 451 is 4:53 long, but the song really stops right around 4:51... coincidence?
