Matthew Stafford's agent's phone will probably never stop ringing.

 

If Kirk Cousins makes it through the season healthy and matches even his 2015 numbers (4k yards, 30TD, <15INT), he's gonna get a 5yr/125+mil contract fully guaranteed on the free market

Its believable that he'd break $30mil/yr if he doesnt take a fully guaranteed deal

Stafford has a daughter named Chandler. Somewhere Matthew Perry / Chandler in a Friends-universe is screaming / sobbing.

 

If the Lions wanted to keep Stafford and make him happy then there was no other way to do it. The price for franchise quarterbacks is absurd and I hate it but I'm not mad at the Lions for making that deal happen. If there's no chance of the market hitting a plateau, then a quarterback worse than him will make just as much or more.

Should I knock on wood?

 

Why is anyone remotely surprised Stafford got that contract? The writing was on the wall. He's been improving almost every year, and he's still relatively young for a QB in the league. I'll gladly overpay for a good QB then be stuck with a dumpster-fire at the position.

I guarantee you within a year or two there's going to be a worse QB than Stafford making more than him.

I'll probably finally order my Stafford jersey now. Was waiting for him to officially re-sign.

 

I have friends that are already mad that the Bills are obviously aiming for a QB in the 2018 draft and they always mention the Jets as part of their anger. I'm of the mindset that the Jets don't matter--as long as there's 2 QBs worth drafting high, I'm very confident the Jets will pick the wrong one

 

The bills are still much better than the jets, it isn't close.

Unless tyrod is out for the year I don't see a way they get a record that's even in the top 5'of the draft

 

Everyone is better than the Jets.

 

The Bills are pretty bad. Not Jets bad, but definitely bad enough to compete for a top five pick.

 

I'm an Eagles fan and went through this exact situation a couple years ago. Wentz > Goff.

 

There's too many bad teams, too many. The jets are just kings of the shitpile.

But the bills are far more of a complete team than the jets, it's not close. If they had someone like brees they're probably an 8-8 team at best but instead they'll probably be 5-11 or 6-10. There is definitely going to be a team that suffers from getting a top pick because they were better than awful teams on their schedule and beat them but are still horrendous themselves.

 

why are we using team records as a QB stat, again?

 

Blaming Stafford for a lot of those road losses and winning record team games is completely laughable

He turns 30 this season. It's a bad contract lol. The funny thing is like yeah, Winston can absolutely sign a deal like Stafford's but the kicker is when Winston's is up, he will be Stafford's age.

They pretty much had to do it.

I didn't say old. I said he isn't young. He used the example of people eventually getting more and I countered with "those people will be Stafford's age now when their new one expires."
