How is it? We bought it but haven't had time to learn it or have enough people to play yet

Should finally be able to get in my first game of Millennium Blades soon. Don't think my normal group would go for it, but a bunch of my co-workers were all CCG players, so I think they'll be down.

We had our first of what I'm hoping is going to be a regular game night at work last week. Had a bunch of co-workers that aren't boardgamers play Ticket to Ride and everyone seemed to love it. Then we played a bunch of rounds of Secret Hitler which was a ton of fun. Actually the first time I'd played any of the social deduction style games.

Played 5 Person Ticket to Ride tonight with my family. Took almost 2 hours but was really fun and different experience than I'm used to with just my wife and i

Played a 4 player game of Forbidden Island today with the family. We won but were down to the last island tile. Crazy game but we had fun

    Newbie to this thread. :nerd:

I bought Secret Hitler but haven't had a chance to play it yet. I'm not fully understanding how the game play works? When I bought it, I thought the liberal/fascist cards would have actual policies or examples on them, but they don't. What or how are you convincing others to pass said card if there isn't anything to discuss or "trick" or debate?

They really just act as another tool to try to figure out a persons role without totally giving it away. The president gets 3 of them at random, discards 1 and gives the other 2 to the chancellor who must enact one of them. As president, say your 3 policies are 2 fascists and 1 liberal. Giving the chancellor 2 fascist cards could signal to them that you're definitely a fascist. You could argue that saying you didn't have a choice (lying in this case, saying you had 3 fascist cards to choose from). Giving them 1 of each could be a way for you to try to figure out what their role is based on what they enact.

Not going to explain every scenario, but I think you probably get where I'm going with this. When it comes up the first time in the game, you'll totally get it.

What's the Agricola learning curve like? My girlfriend and I bought it months ago but still haven't given it a try.

Never thought to look for a board game forum on here... BGG.com and Reddit can both be so irritating for discussion...

Anyway, I'd love to talk board games with people here if anyone's down.

Agricola is my second favorite game of all time. You may have played it by now, but I don't think the game is terribly complex if you've played similar euro-style games. I'd start with the family game (which is very similar to the full game without the card decks). It's still pretty fulfilling and enjoyable. The cards deepen the game, but can be confusing to new players.

What are some of your favorites? What have you been playing lately? Who do you usually play with?

    @Colby Searcy

My two favorite games ever are Power Grid and Agricola, but neither gets played a ton. I have 2 young kids, so long games don't get to the table much. We mostly play light-medium weight Euro-type games. Some recent favorites have been: the new Odin's Ravens reprint, the new RoboRally reprint, Clank, Fugitive, Trambahn, and 7 Wonders Duel. Barenpark is my current hotness.

I mostly play with my wife and her best friend throughout the week. She'll come over at the kids are in bed to chill out, and then she and I will play games while my wife watches TV... ha. But on the weekends, we play with a few friends here and there. I'm friends with the owner of the local game shop, and I buy a new game every few weeks and just try to peddle them on anyone who comes to my house.

    How about you?

For someone who got into MTG in their mid twenties, what are some fantasy/lore like board games that I may be into?

I never got into MTG, and that theme of games probably interests me the least. I enjoy Lords of Waterdeep (set in DnD world). I would scroll through this website: Browse Board Games | BoardGameGeek and see what might be interest to you. There are some cool deck-building games that are pretty awesome. My favorite is Clank right now.

    Awesome thanks!

I'm not purely looking for deckbuilding games, I guess just games in a fantasy setting. Not to keen on settings like Clue, or Risk, Settlers of Catan, etc

Gotcha. I usually gravitate to more realistic themes. I do enjoy both Lords of Waterdeep and Clank, which both have fantasy-type themes.

My favorite games are more kid friendly but Clue, 1313 Dead End Drive, and Where in the USA Is Carmen Sandiego? are my favorites. The only other 2 that are more older oriented are Forbidden Island and Ticket To Ride and love both of those.

I don't really have friends so it's just my wife and I that typically play so I try to find 2-player games. Ready for my son to be old enough to play more games with me hah!

A new game all of you should check out: Santorini. The best way I can explain it is vertical chess. Its a weird 1 on 1 game thats part puzzle game, strategy game, and really abstract. It also adds in cards that give powers that completely changes everything. One of my new favorites.

That's cool. I've never played 1313 Dead End Drive. I do like Clue, but the roll and move aspect really gets to me. There's a game that one of my friends has called Mystery Express which is just like Clue but without having to roll the right numbers to get information. Forbidden Island is really good, and Ticket to Ride is one of my favorites. My extended family likes it, so I play it a lot with a lot of different people.

We have a lot of 2 player games that are pretty quick since we have kids. My 5 year old is finally getting the hang of games, and she will actually ask to play games sometimes which I love.

Dude. I want to play Santorini so badly. It's out of stock everywhere and our local game store doesn't have it in their lending library. I know my wife and I are going to love it. I just need to get my hands on it.

Really want to give Apocrypha a shot. Setting looks great, but I've been sitting on a sealed copy of Pathfinder ACG forever and haven't found a single person to play with, so I don't feel like any money spent on another similar game will do me much good.
