Justin Pierre told some guy to shut up and that that joke was older than he was after he kept shouting "FREEBIRD" at the CTTM10 show

Welcome Home at Coheed shows is obnoxious. Frat guys who only know it because of guitar hero

I think it's pretty clear at this point that Brand New doesn't follow rules. Unwritten or written.

Funny, anytime I hear the weird voice at the very end of No Control, right before the creepy laugh, I think of Tanner Merrit. Sounds just like him.

I never said I was mad at Modest Mouse, just left in shock is all. Yeah I was didsapointed but I can't be mad at Modest Mouse themselves.

And even though I have heard every Modest Mouse album, I'm more casual with them then most artists I like so it is a bit dissapointing when you want to belt your heart out to "the hit"

Especially when the band has a written setlist for a reason. The lights/production have all been rehearsed as well as the song itself so it's dumb to think otherwise

When I saw Radiohead they didn't play Creep, High and Dry or Karma Police (their top three hits iirc) and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen

oh god yeah. i went with a friend to see Coheed and he'd only heard Welcome Home. he legit thought Coheed was going to be like some thrash metal band or something. once they got to the back to back pop onslaught of Blood Red Summer, A Favor House Atlantic, The Suffering, and then Feathers he was like "wait what the fuck" then they played The Crowing and Everything Evil and some other darker, more proggy songs and he was like "i think im going to leave this sucks"

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

If I never had to see Welcome Home again at a Coheed show, I would be so happy.

Coheed always changes their sets up, which I love, but man, that's one of those instances where a band having to play their popular song bums me out sometimes. Almost every Coheed show ends with it now.

Seeing it now close the show on the GA:1 album tour was nice at least.

One time I went and saw Morrissey. I'd consider myself fairly well versed in his discography. Dude didn't play any "hits" or popular songs outside maybe Hand In Glove and Asleep. And the rest was like deep cuts of his solo stuff, no "hits" but I wasn't mad or annoyed because I paid to see Morrissey, not the "hit" songs. And that's exactly what I got!

making up some bullshit unwritten rule and then somehow being in "shock" because they didnt play one popular song is kinda odd dont you think

I'd die if The Cure played a tour where they only did songs from Join The Dots and other b-sides

First, it's not BS. Second, I didn't make the rule. Third, regardless of how good the show is, it is shocking when a band doesn't play their biggest hit. Especially if the hit is the song that got them famous.

The best time i've ever had from a heckling fan was at an Owen show. Some guy in the back of Union Transfer at the bar kept yelling "Play Never Meant!." he got a couple cheers, but if anyone has seen Mike K live before you know he's a pretty timid and modest guy. He finally chuckled and acknowledged it (mind you, this is years before the AF reunion). He goes "You know what the funny thing is about playing shows where you get people like that? It's that those people are asking for the stuff that, well just wasn't very good. I love that people appreciate those songs now, but no one liked those songs. In fact, we weren't even a very good band."

I just wish they would stop closing with it. open with it, play it in the middle, SOMETHING, but closing every non album anniversary show with it is kind of crazy.

There ISN'T A RULE, UNWRITTEN OR OTHERWISE. Bands don't have to play their hits or the songs that got them famous. You aren't paying for songs, they aren't a damn jukebox. You are paying to see the artist THAT IS IT

You're right, you didn't make the rule. Because it's not a rule.

Why do 95% of artists play their most popular song?

Seems like an unwritten rule to me.

    If you've got a quarter
You can stick it in my neck
    Sing whatever song you want
    For whatever mood you're in
    Isn't that what you expect?

And also, while we're at it, lest we not forget the BN discography shows where they didn't announce which albums they were playing, and Long Island almost rioted from not getting YFW/Deja.

Deja remains my favorite album from them, but the fact that I got to see TDAG/Daisy in full plus F&K/Brothers...Man that was easily the best BN show I ever attended. People were SO mad. I remember seeing half the crowd leave when Vices started.
