The last chorus of 451 modulates right? Or does something happen in the bridge that makes it feel that way

This is definitely one of the best SOUNDING albums I've heard all year for sure. It's unbelievably crisp. It's got a wintery sound but it's very warm at the same time if that makes sense.

Well the octave harmony is always there but it's buried a bit more, I can swear I hear it modulate a half or whole step I need to check with a keyboard tho ha

137's chorus is a major ear worm. That little guitar lick alone. Love how it matches the vocal melody.

It def does. Jesse's high note in the first two choruses is an A and in the final one it's a C.

Edit: so a step and a half then

Love it, but tbh I wish they would have withheld the actual chorus and just used the guitar lick after the first verse. Would have made it punch harder. The song might require an extra verse then, though.

I said this in another thread but Could Never Be Heaven could easily be a Sufjan song. I'm having a hard time not hearing his voice when I listen to it. (I've listened to this track at least 10 times since my first play through which was like two hours ago)

Been lurking this thread for a while...usually only post in Thrice-related news and first would like to say it wasn't immediate for me but this album is AMAZING... .anyway just wanted to throw in some discussion on the lyrics for Batter Up because I loved the lyrics initially but didn't know exactly what they meant...

On genius lyrics someone absolutely nailed it... It is Jesse talking about his former self prior to BN. He cites a couple interviews where Jesse says if he wasn't in a band he'd either be a teacher, fisherman or carpenter or chef..endless possibilities..( I think this is a theme in lit me up as well "I Want to put my hands to work till the works done"...anyway so now that BN is over Jesse has the opportunity to do whatever path he chooses to take (batter up)... only verse I can't quite tie into this is the buzzing in my sleep one if anyone has guesses to how that would fit? My favorite is "the road died in your throat"....like all those possibilities ended with him becoming a singer but now that former self is back "died and returned to earth"....so good! haha

Anyway... I have been geeking out hard on all the lyrics and I love how strong some of these themes are throughout and I realize now what a great poet Jesse is..also absolutely love how the end of batter up vocals fade away...then the band...then just feedback into nothing..almost like the death of BN .... thats the stuff of greatness!

Sorry for the super long post out of nowhere... but not really haha

Makes sense, minor third is always a great modulation

Played SF and then listened to that entire Encore podcast while working. Great back to back stuff that complimented each other perfectly. Cheers y'all time for a beer. I haven't left my desk all afternoon!

Production and mixing is great, wish the mastering wasn't brickwalled but it's not something I really notice much in all fairness bc I'm mostly listening in my car stereo. I imagine the vinyl master will be better in that regard.

Also, I've started to pick up some of the guitar parts on the album, it's interesting (to my nerdy self) that they've gone back to half step down tuning for a good portion of these songs.

137 feels so apocalyptic. I know the song references WWII but for some reason whenever I listen to I get imagery of the Vietnam War. Dunno why. It might just be the way the song sounds

I think the mastering is done well in the way that I feel that I never have to touch the volume knob throughout the entire Record. Also have their vocals ever been this high in the mix?
