we're all a bunch of weirdos on a quest to belong Prestigious

Yeah I don't understand this. We have Vin at his very best, probably Garret and Brian at theirs, and Jesse lyrically at his best and arguably his best vocals. But since he isn't screaming the whole thing it's not emotional enough?

I agree. I was thinking he just didn't "get it" but I wasn't sure if that sounds pretentious or not haha

Long story short: he's bad and has bad takes

I think that's what makes it that much more impressive to me, that it's so emotional without having to resort to screaming. This album is one of their most emotional imo and arguably one of their least heaviest

I wonder if the radio chatter in 137 is from actual WWII recordings. It sounds a little too clean to be authentic.

  9. I think he wants to say something and says it without having the evidence for the argument. He thinks up what he wants his argument to be without finding the argument in the music or being able to explain how he got from point A to B. Therefore, he picks words like "emotion" that are purposefully ambiguous but sound good and kinda mean something, and attacks that. The emotive subtlety in countless places on this album are some of the best work Jesse's done. Easily one of the strongest outings of vocal control he's shown, and it's easy to point out various places he uses that to convey specific emotions. (The end of "Out of Mana" being one such example.)

Mellon is a moron when it comes to reviewing music. Funny guy, he made a name for himself which is cool, but his taste in music is barbaric/edge-lord-cringe-tier.

  13. His wavering while singing "no reset" in "Out of Mana" is as emotional as we've heard from him in years. And the strength and vibrance in "In the Water" may be my favorite vocal performance he's given.

Specifically, the way he sings: "So everyone will wait" is perfect Morrissey cribbing, but no one else would do it like that. It's perfect.

The Crime In Stereo album is fantastic. Wish they would finish that follow-up already.

Ok, this may have been discussed in these hundreds of pages, but I don't want to go through all of them to be sure...

So I remember years ago, probably from the old site even, that Jason said that Brand New had sent him songs from what was an upcoming album and he loved the songs. They then decided against those and started work on more songs and after Jason had heard those he didn't enjoy them as much.

If possible, Jason, can you tell us which album was actually released? Was it a blend of the two? Or was it some third batch of song?

New music has been on the way since 2013 lol...living up to the "brand new if they started melodic hardcore instead of pop punk" tag I gave them years ago

I tried to go back and get into their earlier albums to try and make the wait easier but it's just not as good as "I Was Trying..."

Damn it's been 7 years since that album.

I think brand new would be proud of "Young" when it has the huge explosion about 2 minutes in and that that awesome transition to strummed guitar like 30 seconds after.
