"Comforting to find out that the Chorus.fm thread for "Science Fiction" is insane as you'd think and that they still hate me." Ian on twitter.

My story of how I got into Brand New is my cousin was talking about how her school was going to use "Soco Amaretto Lime" for their graduation song. I asked what's that? The rest is history. What's nice is I got into them about a month before Deja came out so my wait for new music was not long!

There is the version that is out on Spotify and iTunes, and then there is a rerecorded version(close to 3 Demos Reworked) that is on the actual cassette. Also that version was accidentally sent out with the other songs when it first went up/out then corrected very quickly.

I mean, he's right, he gave the album an 8.3, it got best new music, but people in here are nitpicking that he said 1-2 things that weren't great about the album.

If the version you're listening to is part of the 'Leaked Demos' release that's the original version that was leaked with a good mix. There is a new rerecorded version that leaked digitally around the time of the release of the cassette and is on the cassette itself that would have been part of the "3 Demos Reworked" recordings I imagine.

Still don't quite understand why the reworked Nobody Moves wasn't just on a 12" called "4 demos reworked" instead. A damn shame.

My BN origin story is this:

In January 2002 I was a Freshman in high school playing in a pop punk band. A kid who was a few years older, a junior I think, and also in a pop punk band we often played with told me I had to hear this new record. We had just played a show, and we listened to YFW from start to finish in his Jeep Wrangler.

I literally can't remember his name. But when an older kid talks up a record, well, it made me instantly love it. There was some cache behind it, you know?

I don't have am origin story, I didn't start listening to them until a couple years after TDAG

I could have been listening to them longer but people told me to check out this record TDAG, I put on Sowing Season and at the time wasn't felling it and turned the record off. I'm mad at myself for doing that because I would have became a fan sooner if I had just let the whole record play.

For the record, I like Sowing Season now.

My Brand New origin story is kind of random - I was into punk music - and a huge space nerd. I remember the cover of Deja catching my eye at FYE in 2003 because of the astronaut (Dave Scott) on the cover. Literally bought because of that.

Found two bands I love because of my space nerdiness - Bad Astronaut was a similar find.

Does this mean you've never listened to the demos? Oh you're missing out. My second favourite collection of brand new songs.

just finished listening. pretty good, but having heard some of the originals before, i like those better. Nobody Moves and 1996 are sick though.

I joined AbsolutePunk.net in 2002-3. Tell All Your Friends was AOTY in 2002, and Deja was released and AOTY in 2003, so that's how I found out about Brand New.

Somehow I'm still here, lurking in discussions about Brand New. I couldn't have predicted that they'd be among the handful of bands who, to me, really represent what's possible with contemporary rock.

I prefer Luca Reprise to the TDAG version. Brothers so my favourite Brand New song. Fork and Knife is up there.

I started listening to Brand New in 03-04, quite a few tracks off Deja just hit me and I've been a casual fan ever since. Sometimes I don't get the big deal but then again Jesus Christ is one of the most well written songs I've ever heard.

    Brand new origin story.

Sophomore in high school (2002), my friend is over and we are listening to music. She says she's been listening to a band called brand new but that I wouldn't like them bc they were too "emo". I made her show me them anyway, the song was failure by design, I've been hooked ever since.

I was 12 and my older brother came back from our local music store with a new cd and was like "fenway89 you gotta come check out this band I just found. Their cd just came out like a week ago" and then we drove around in his truck listening to Your Favorite Weapon

    Someday I’ll find me Prestigious

I've always hated the emo label, and would have never even given Brand New a single bit of my attention had I known it was associated with emo. Thankfully, I didn't hear them associated with emo until like 2009.

Early 2000s Kevin was all about the heaviest music that could be found.

Brand new taught me a valuable lesson. Never judge a band on first impression or just one song or listen
