“Failure by Design” is fantastic. “Magazines” is pretty gross. “My Nine Rides Shotgun” is just outright bad, and you don’t even have to get past the title to discover that.

 

does the title really say anything? The bad production, annoying synth and safe pop-punk songwriting does

 

That’s exactly how it works. The climax of all works of art isn’t always in the exact same place. Sometimes it’s in the middle and there’s a long epilogue; sometimes it’s close to the end and there’s a short epilogue; sometimes it’s right at the end and there’s no epilogue. Sometimes it happens at the beginning.

 

Didn’t their announcement last year when they delayed LP5 also refer to the imminence of their “demise”?

So I think it's reasonable to believe Brand New is stoked to continue being a band. Or just come back with another killer album when Jesse hits 50.

 

Picking apart the cover art for a moment: imagine the feeling of helplessness, but also an ironic catharsis in falling. Understand the thoughts or substances you had before you jumped that led up to that moment, and consequently, the frustration of hitting the pavement and realizing it maybe wasn't what you wanted after all. Not only must you must pick up your now-broken bones and move on, but fight the same urge many more times in the future, maybe even jumping again to the same result. You question your motives, and they in turn put your mental health in question. Hope and strive for an answer, but don't expect one.

That is simply my interpretation, but it aligns with SF's overall thesis and presentation in a way I was pretty happy with.

Pretty sure LP5 was for the fans and not them. Obviously they made the kind of music they wanted to make in the end but they only put out an album because of the fans in my opinioj.

I was strictly talking studio albums earlier. If you end up liking an artist wouldn't you want to check out their albums? Especially if at the time they only have 3 or 4 albums.....

 

You have to have heard every album, b-side, demo, and live recording to be considered a true fan. That includes all YouTube live videos
