I mean narratively it's a musical release after an implied suicide in You Won't Know. It introduces a moment of calm before the exhaustive and draining Not The Sun-Luca-Untitled-Archers-Handcuffs. But it's still a very narrow way of viewing music, as if all that's worthwhile in music is narrative

I mean there's no overarching narrative to TDAG. It's not a concept album. Unless you believe the record actually begins with Bangkok, if you do then the narrative states Bangkok is a break from Deja Entendu signifying the death of that album and beginning of a new one.

But that's a dumb theory anyway.

 

I think I'll have to spend some time with the lyrics to try and get into this album more.

Hahah i remember trying to listen that way but it just doesn't make sense. Not following up You Won't Know with Bangkok is just terrible! It's my favourite part of the album.

Metacritic is ass but most aggregate sites are. I enjoy reading and writing reviews ofc but honestly my opinion is better than everyone else's objectively speak

 

Welcome to Bangkok gets me hyped. I've always thought it was so atmospheric. If I was a boxer I would listen to it before a fight. Or use it as my entrance music and let everyone know how cool I was. I feel like it's good walking-and-looking-cool music.
