Imagining someone listening to Limousine and thinking "oh man, this record is really going downhill."

This post seems to be implying that instrumentals drag an album down. Welcome To Bangkok brings that album up so hard.

Yeah it's great but doesn't really add to the themes or narrative. That's all I meant. Suppose Untitled does have a few lyrics.

I can't rank songs yet, but I know Could Never Be Heaven is in my top 3 and I know you want to fight me. Sorry!

To me it sounds like it's supposed to be coming from a different persons narrative

I'm going to go ahead and take issue with the idea that the music doesn't add to the theme / narrative.

Classical music for centuries advanced narratives and themes without lyrics. That hasn't just ceased.

there are no bad songs on this album and i think they're all pretty close in quality. this was just my gut after my first 20+ listens. i havent posted all that much in this thread, but i genuinely believe this will be the album they're remembered by. but also recency bias is a thing

That's a narrow way to look at music. It still evokes an emotion and adds to the atmosphere of the album.

Songs don't need lyrics to be emotive, or have meaning. They can 100% carry a ~"theme"~ like damn even insinuating they can't is pretty fucking wack and insults a huge portion of music.

Damn Bangkok is one of the most emotional songs on TDAG, the energy, the release. Jesse screaming into a guitar. It's a fucking trip of emotions.

Yes but...narrative additions? Introducing new thoughts or themes to the album?

A song can be great without lyrics and contribute to the mood of the album but that doesn't mean it contributed to the narrative.

Oh god he's talking about narrative. Jesus.

Again words are not needed for "narrative". Music can imply narrative. Again, loads of music tells stories without words.

Death From Above has a new album coming?

I love them! We'll be a great album but won't rival Science Fiction.

Do you think TDAG is a concept album? Like, there isn't a story that goes from song to song.

But if you want to know what WtB evokes, I'd say that, off the top of my head, it creates a sense of dischord. The "space cadet...pull up" line leading into the heavy music calls to mind a crash of some sort.

And for me, it has always been a really effective bridge between one half of the album to the other.

Jesus is a great narrative addition good one! High point of the album imo.
