I completely forgot this album came out. That's how much of an impression it made on me.

The hooks are huge in every single song. It's really incredible. A perfectly crafted pop record. All 10 tracks have spent a good amount of time stuck in my head

I saw them on Friday night! I was a little...I dunno, nervous isn't the right word but I can't think of a better one; uncertain how I would take to the show since I was figuring they'd had to have adapted a lot of their old material to suit their new sound cause I doubted they were lugging around that much gear to play in both styles.

I didn't really need to worry, though, cause a lot of the reinterpretations were pretty cool (Living Room, Back in Your Head) even if not all of them really worked for me (Northshore). They also did a small acoustic segment in the middle where they played a run of songs from The Con which was my favourite part of the night. Their banter was on-point, which was something I really liked the last time I saw them years ago.

The setlist was obviously pretty weighted toward material from Heartthrob and Love You to Death, which made for some fun energy even if most of my favourite songs are on earlier albums. Biggest surprise was they only did one song from So Jealous, which I thought would have more live staples on it.

They're doing a little UK tour and I'm not sure if I'm going to go or not. I've seen them twice already and they were alright live, but didn't blow me away or anything. Plus, I'd be a little disspointed if the setlist is as Heartthrob/LYTD heavy as I imagine it will be.

In about 2007 an old girlfriend asked me to go see them with her, would have been about a fiver for a ticket in like a 100 cap venue. We didn't end up doing it for reasons I can't remember, but I was absolutely kicking myself about that when I came to listen to them about 2 years later.

Practically the same thing happened to me with Meg and Dia, I should have listened to that girl more often...

This has grown on me a lot but is still weaker than the 4 that preceded it by a decent amount. The lack of any bite or muscle in the production is mostly to blame, imo

Woah really? The production on this is easily one of my favorite things about the record. "That Girl" is so strong.. those drums in "Faint of Heart" (especially in the bridge). I could go on and on about Kurstin's work on this album. He did the majority of Heartthrob too. I think he's the perfect pairing for them

Not to mention the strength and tightness of the low end on "U-Turn." The mixes are incredible too

I think the production is stronger than on Heartthrob, but the songs weaker.

just relistened to get myself pumped for seeing them on Friday and I do like the production, it's very 80s which is always a good thing for pop

That Girl and White Knuckles still slay me something fierce. I wish I loved the rest of this as much.

edit: That's not to say the rest is bad, just those two songs are truly :100: :100: :100:

I have to say, I saw Tegan & Sara live last weekend at Folk Fest, and it was the worst live performance I've ever seen. They could not have looked less interested in being on stage, and their music blurred into one long dancey homogenous slice of boredom.

Say what you will about bands changing their sound or chasing fame or whatever, but it has done these ladies no favours.

"Has done these ladies no favors" except deliver them their biggest singles and tours to date? Makes no sense..

Lol yeah, worded poorly by me. It hasn't made them any better, is what I mean. I used to hear great things about their live shows and it was a bad, bad concert I saw.

Could not disagree more. They've consistently been one of the most fun performers I've seen over the years, starting with them specifically back in 2012. I've turned a lot of friends into fans just by dragging them to their sets, haha. Going back and watching old videos of their performances, they've obviously last that level of intimacy with the crowd that came with their previous setting (pre-Heartthrob), but I think overall they've made the transition into a pop act absurdly well.

Maybe you just saw them on a bad day? Which, either way, is super rare for them. And that's a bummer.

They've always been a bit hit and miss live to be honest. I remember watching a Coachella performance a few years back when Heartthrob came out and they were very off, sounded really awful.

I've seen them a few times in mid-sized venues in the UK and they were alright live - not great, but fine. Their festival sets always seem to be worse.

I think they're better with smaller, more intimate shows. There are lots of little sets with them playing stripped down and acoustic songs, where they're very very good. I think that suits them more in a live setting.

So damn excited for this. Also the fact that they are donating every cent to their foundation makes my heart so full.
