I miss the Tom from the Start the Machine documentary. In it he saying (and you can tell) that he truly wanted to make the best album of his career, and that his biggest fear was not being musically relevant anymore and no longer topping the charts and filling arenas. What the hell happened?

 

Tom just lost ambition. It's sad, it really is. I know he has it in him.

 

I think that part of him is in the past. Which is sad.

Yeah the fucking nerve of the guy to charge a whole dollar more than what most people "expect" to pay for four songs.

 

Yeah wtf are you guys talking about. Tom is more ambitious than ever, just about different things.

 

Took two years to do an acoustic album celebrating the anniversary of WDNTW, releases it way past the anniversary. Decides instead it will be only 4 of said songs on an EP and charge 5 bucks.

That's as ambitious as Yajirobe.

It's not that he's charging a dollar more....he's charging a dollar more on his own website where he collects the profits, and is selling it cheaper on third party stores. He's basically saying to his fans "hey I have new music coming in a few days OR you can buy it from me now for 25% more the retail cost." It just seems disengenuous that he's always trying to get an extra penny out of his fans.

And it irks me cuz I would usually fall for this shit. I fucking paid $75 for the "special edition" Dreamwalker boxset that was literally a CD-R with instruction on how to download the mp3s and burn it to the disc. Oh and a tiny diary with the AVA logo on the front.

 

Or you can always pay him in space cash.

$5 for 4 songs is extremely reasonable. That'd usually cost £5 in the UK, which is more like $7 or so.

Plus, the fact it costs more from his own site makes total sense. Same reason merch costs more at shows I imagine. Artists have to buy their own merch to sell from the manufacturer, so have to sell with a bit of a mark up to make a profit. Unless it's digital, in which case this is irrelevant.

 

Meh. They sounds ok. hardly acoustic though.

 

I'm annoyed it's only an EP because I really wanted the whole album. but I really like the clips I heard on amazon. maybe he'll release another EP with more songs
