Just like reclaiming tickets from secondary markets they don't like fans getting abused or taken advantage of and in this case for the package that was sent out just like the lyric book from TDAG people will pay a fortune for these on Ebay which is wrong. They prob knew that might happen but have No Control over it and decided to do it anyways. That's what I was saying. Kinda hard to work and post at the same time. On the phone with Air Canada brb

 

Honestly Brand New has never been my favorite band or anything. I love them, but never to the heights of some of you, but god damn this album is just something so special. I keep trying to pull myself away, but I can't. I read something about it and I get called back in because even if I see one song mentioned, I can't just listen to one - I need the full experience.

 

you have to end them both with "ok, podcast done" and "ok write-up done" respectively to keep it in continuity with your YFW review :P

 

Did you have tickets already? I'm looking for tickets to the show. Or we can trade tickets for a free place to crash if you can get extras?

 

Yea I get what you're saying, still it seems weird to say they shouldn't send out a free cd (or essentially free assuming it really is tied to vinyl pre-orders) because someone might take advantage. It just sucks that people are like that. At least some of the risk was mitigated but having it be sent out only to people who pre-ordered the vinyl right away.

 

Ha no sorry we didn't get tickets. We looked and while we probably could have done it because we plan to visit that area eventually we couldn't justify the cost of the tickets/hotel + plane tickets so no live Brand New for me in 2017

 

What do you think they should have done?

 

some of the songs on here remind me of Nobody Moves in that their structure and mood is somehow disjointed yet perfectly connected. i also love the additional instrumentation like the organs and acoustic guitars and hell theres even banjo and harmonica on In The Water.

 

Not sure if this has been brought up but there is a similarity in the band's album covers. DAG and SF both have covers that are almost evenly split down the middle between light and dark lighting. Just something I noticed. Also YFW is the same but reversed.

This album has been taking up all my free time since it was released. I'm feeling pretty confident about how I'd rank everything at this point:

SF > TDAGARIM > Daisy > DE > YFW

I don't think it's a matter of "they knew it would happen, but sent them out anyways," because of course it was going to happen. Their first pressings and color variants go for ridiculous prices. That's never stopped them, or any other band, from releasing anything before.

TDAG too. noticed this when i listened to all 3 on Friday. TDAG is... 58 minutes? SF is 61, and daisy is 40 i think.

EDIT: TDAG is 54 minutes. Point still stands.

Do you think it took them eight years to write science fiction? Brand New hasn't been known to release
Sub par albums, and even their leaked demos were a huge hit among fans.

I wouldn't have been surprised if there was some self doubt, laziness, label issues, scrapped songs, extra effort, life, family and a lot tied up into the eight years. I discovered this band and saw them live when Your Favorite Weapon came out.

Thrice has been around a long time, and even slipped into a hiatus and have released more material and as side project than Brand New. 1.5 songs a year is lame. I'm sure there were a lot of reasons for it. I like Science Fiction, but tagging it as a masterpiece after a week feels premature. The period between Deja/Demos/TDAG maybe some of favourite ever even to this day. Hopefully we all still love Science Fiction as much years from now.

I really hope if this is their last record, they release more demos, Sealed to Me, or whatever else they didn't think was good enough but was really amazing.

 

dammit I got to jump in, i recently really found a new appreciation for Cope i may have it over simple math now. maybe.
