I started watching Wynonna Earp last night and it's so ridiculous in the best way

Just saw Sing Street and it was a major punch in the feels

 

so many limited release films that don't come nearby. i really wanted to see The Witch but i didn't get a chance to see that OR Brooklyn (or Room for that matter) cuz i think i had to work and it only was showing in a tiny theater a town away
but yeah, i need some new films on my radar

Saw like the second half of the Ben Hur trailer and all of the new Dev Patel movie trailer at the theater yesterday and both made me physically squirm they looked so embarrassingly bad.

 

I don't get how movies like Ben Hur keep getting made are people clamoring for movies set in ancient times because they don't interest me at all

 

Not sure if there's a better place for this article, but it's a good read on the frustrating and daunting climate for small films (even if the article is a touch too dismissive of the reality of a film critic's job: they have to write about the films people can see to get readers). Very happy to see it mention An Oversimplification of Her Beauty, a really tremendous film.

Critical Theory Club at my campus had a talk about female superheroes in comics and related media. Talked a lot about Jessica Jones and Ms. Marvel, even watched half of the first episode of JJ. Was a good discussion.

Found out that Sam Esmail(creator of the incredible Mr. Robot)'s screenplay Sequels, Remakes, and Adaptations is being made. Love Mr. Robot and thought Comet was pretty great, so i'm on board.

Did not know that a Jack Ryan TV series was in the works, but I'm down with this. Should be awesome!

 

I finally got around to watching Antman last night in preparation for Captain America. What a great film, really enjoyable and the humour was great.

 

Netflix is in talks for a Dredd sequel. Yeeeee.
