Out of this world delicious. BTW, Trader Joe's now sells Jack Fruit by the can!

Is pulled jackfruit something other than literally being jack fruit cut like that?

  4. Yeah when you buy the can, it's just the fruit meat cut into triangles. When you cook it with BBQ sauce for a while it will pull apart like pork/chicken.

Yep. I recommend getting cans with water or brine, personally. An Asian market will sell all three styles. Not sure what Trader Joe's has. There is a third style with syrup that I avoid. It's really good if you prepare and cook it right. Jackfruit tends to be sweet so I recommend using a sauce that plays against that flavor well. Make like an avocado slaw to put on top and you are off to the races. Big fan of jackfruit, but I did find myself having to try it a few times to get the cooking down. You can easily prepare it poorly and it won't taste that good.

I think I like the brine better for BBQ so that's good to know. I also highly recommend using the leftover BBQ jackfruit for tacos later on.

  8. Real American (vegan) meal tonight:

    Beer brats
    Corn on the cob
    Baked beans
    Peppers and onions
    Mac n cheese

And vegan ice cream for dessert

Just recently went vegetarian and I think I nailed a vegan Mac and Cheese.

Vegan butter (I like Earth Balance), olive oil in a skillet. Throw in some onion and garlic. Cook until soft and smelling good. I have a garlic and herb blend that I throw on there. Some pepper and paprika. 1 cup of almond milk, 1/2 a coup of nutritional yeast. Stir it around for awhile, I like to throw in some broccoli, or some Gardien chicken strips. Pour it over elbows. Delicious.

I'm having a blast making all sorts of stuff. Gonna try to tackle the jackfruit pulled pork sandwiches.

I'm not vegan but several members of my family are and they love it. I'm not opposed to it but I'm mostly just so god damned lazy. Question, is there anyone here who is big into fitness? I've been wanting to explore some vegan options to supplement my workout routine. Just looking for high protein/low carb basically.

I dont know personally but i know theres a lot of sources of people out there that do it. that are either super fit, bodybuilders or high levels of fitness and they're vegan. instagram and youtube are a good source.
    some examples

I dont know maybe some vegans here want to weigh in on the debate but actually high levels of protein aren't necessary like we've been told, in fact its a bit of a myth. many people in their daily lives, especially meat eaters, over consumer how much protein they are suppose to eat in a day exponentially. To consume a diet that contains enough, but not too much, protein, simply replace animal products with grains, vegetables, legumes (peas, beans, and lentils), and fruits. As long as you're eating a variety of plant foods in sufficient quantity to maintain one’s weight, the body gets plenty of protein. A lot of "what i eat in a day (vegan)" kind of style of videos exist on youtube so maybe even give those a look. its totally doable but maybe if youre lazy will take some work, if you were willing to do it.

I don't do heavy weightlifting, but I went plant based (mostly, but always vegan) for a marathon last year and had a personal best. Recovery and energy from food is night and day from a traditional diet. If you focus on eating right in totality for the day, rather than harping on each meal, you will find that you get more than enough protein for the day.

Jackfruit is pretty good but once you have it more than once in a blue moon it kind of gets boring

On topic of weird vegan things, I don't know if it's still true, but not that long ago Skittles in the USA were not vegan due to what was used to mark the "S" on each one. However, overseas, specifically in the UK they were vegan.

I first had jackfruit new years day 2016. I wasn't crazy about it at first. Recently my wife made a buffalo dip with it and it was so tasty. Now I want to make sure to have it a little more often

Let me grab my wife and I'll ask. I'm sure she has it on her phone. Remind me. It was served at my grandmom's 100th birthday party. I was shocked people ate it. "Vegan?! Can I eat this? Is it... good?"

I've had buffalo jackfruit pizza (sizzle pie whattup), but it seems like kind of an intimidating thing to prepare myself. I'll have to pick up a couple cans and try it out.
