The first time I saw Brand New live they opened with The Shower Scene and it was one of the heaviest sounding songs I've heard in a live setting.

Just doesn't stack up to YFW. Nothing does, not even Drake or T Swift

Did anyone figure out where the intro to Lit Me Up comes from?

I will be super upset if I get to see Brand New again and they don't play all of their albums in order.

Brand New fans really go overboard analysing every small detail. It's like when they conjectured the band name was a sardonic thought on the lack of original music (especially after Deja = "same old"). Then the band confessed they just took the band name from a friend. No secret meaning behind it.

That said, the band's always doing weird shit; they probably get their kicks out of misdirecting them.

YFW is great if you're 12

I take it you don't listen to much heavy music

O'brother and Underoath still take the cake for heaviest sounds experienced live. O'brother legit shook my bone marrow when I saw them with MO and Cage the Elephant.

I got through this, and didn't love it. I do however feel like when fall/ winter roll around, that will change, and it's going to own my entire soul and every aspect of my existence. I'm so ready for that.

Check their latest Instagram post and see comments referring to whether Jesse is homophobic because of the song 'Desert' (regardless of who's perspective he's writing from).

    [YFW is still great though.]

Never was the rumor. The rumor was that he mastered it.

What am I looking for? A clarification statement from the band? There's a whole lot of comments there and I don't want to miss whatever you're directing me to.

Their last instagram post had some discussion in the comments about the song 'Desert' being homophobic, as one user (waste451) said they hope Jesse wasn't writing from his own views.

    Here is a direct quote:
'waste451': "and like yall im not comfortable listening to a song that calls us abominations even if its From The Perspective Of Some Bigot"

Your post just reminded me that even this album has potential controversy in its lyrics if you choose to be offended by it.

They have multiple Instagram posts about being in favour of marriage equality

But yeah as I said day 1 Desert is incredibly hard to listen to for me.

It's also not choosing to be offended by it. What an absurd statement .

It's satire but I can't pretend like know what it would be like to be in that situation, if the song offends someone they shouldn't listen to it, or be forced to listen to it. I'm guessing the band won't play it live

My favorite heavy song is American Idiot by Green Day

Yeah, Jesse definitely isn't writing from his perspective but if a fan is even questioning that then imagine a casual naïve listener.

While that's true, I think Jesse wrote it much like Maradona where he purposefully chose to write in the perspective of the moral antagonist to educate those on how poor the narrator's views are. Much in the way where I think "Wow, that guy is a dick" towards the narrator of Maradona, I feel the same way to the narrator of the Desert. It's sort of a song of awareness and alert that instances like these are still relevant and plentiful.

The songs on YFW, however, are obviously not in that same storytelling light, and it's why I dislike them. It's not a fictional character used as a device to discuss a topic, it's a real life, immature young man who genuinely has those views.

Good thing the band grew up.
