This was honestly the first album I actually put on my iPhone in years, I use spotify mainly. Had to update my OS, phone and iTunes, worth it.

I spent way more money than I ever thought I would on headphones last year and this is the album that is finally fully justifying that expense hahaha

 

Glad they finally put it on Apple Music, if for no other reason than so it can chart highly.

 

It sounds good to me subjectively, but it is mastered pretty loud. Not exceptionally loud for this shameful era of the loudness war, but audiophiles are always going to complain when the waveform for a tame acoustic song like "Waste" is clipping constantly.

 

I received a text out of the blue from my best friend from high school that I got into Brand New with just saying "Is the Brand New album great or am I crazy?" which I thought was awesome/hilarious. We're still friends but it's been a while since I last heard from him and I had actually been wondering if he knew there was a new BN album out.

 

The funny thing is it's on apple music but not in the itunes store...yet

 

I had been listening to a split CD rip until just now, and I do think the Apple Music version has noticeably better sound quality to my ears.

 

What movie is the sample at the end of can never be heaven from... i know it I just can't think of it right now

Yeah that's actually exactly what a few users from RED said, referencing this image. I mean, it sounds good to me, but I don't have top of the line equipment so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

 

Sounds the same as the download to my ears but for some reason I feel like Apple Music always sounds better than imported mp3s on iPhones... it's definitely all in my head

 

This album is so fucking incredible eh what a grower. It has an undeniable unique and distinct vibe to it which i love. Chill, dark, mysterious, eerie, affecting/moving basically all the reasons why i fell in love with brand new in the first place. Also the mix is so crisp. Truly bliss worthy. Pristine production by Sapone. He has done it again! Shout out to Ratti too. Ok i'm done gushing about it for now

Yeah, both this record and TDAG are mastered obnoxiously loud, with ReplayGain showing -13dB to -14dB offsets for the heavier songs (that's really high, even for metal and hard rock). On the other hand, I'd say both records are mixed very well, so they still sound really good if you're not nitpicking or listening on high-end equipment. It just means that they could've sounded impeccable if they hadn't been compressed to hell at the very end in mastering.

 

So happy this is on Apple Music finally. First listen.. I held out.
