You Stole is a fine song but fuck i hate it live. Probably my least favourite slower song they play live.

 

My thoughts basically. Would say Deja gets closer to great than good for me, but still doesn't touch everything after

 

i want to experience 137 live so bad

 

Agree on YFW. It blows my mind that I have people on facebook actually bashing SF (and TDAG & Daisy) saying that Brand New need to go back to the sound from YFW. I mean there are some good songs on there but it feels like it's an album that almost any band from 2002 could have put out.

 

What I'm saying though is its a legit amethyst good album that people like because it's good and not because of Nostalgia.

As I said yesterday, Im a late bloomer when it comes to Brand New. I have 0 nostalgia when it comes to the first two albums because I didn't find them until DAG and didn't even start actually listening to them until years later. I still think they are fantastic albums. I understand why people say that for Your Favorite Weapon but Deja Entendu is one of the best albums ever written and that's not nostalgia talking.

 

You are missing out on their best album!

I know most people will disagree but if you call yourself a Brand new fan you need to at least listen to it once.

The thing with YFW is that they did that sound better than literally anyone (Except Blink-182 in my personal opinion).

I don't like You Stole to begin with, I wish they would drop it man.


EDIT: To me personally Deja is practically flawless. No bad songs, pretty much every song is perfect, and I would literally change nothing about the album. There are only a select few albums where I would literally change nothing about them and Deja is one of them.

Okay that's fair. But it seems like a lot of people are assuming that people can only like that album because of nostalgia, which is way false. It's one of the best albums ever written.

 

The guitar work on this album might be my favorite guitar work on any album ever. It's so good!

 

Deja is legitimately great, such tightly written pop songs, not really giving much up lyric wise to TDAG, the "they weren't good til devil" narrative is frustratingly musical elitist, reminds me of old-time-internet "radiohead is untoppable because they are smart" posts

I love Deja but with the way the crowd acts during those songs makes me hope to never hear them live

 

I guess playing Wish live really stuck with them -- Jesse is really doing the Trent Reznor thing on Out of Mana. And 451 gives me strong Marilyn Manson vibes. Brand New has always utilized their influences in such cool ways, and on this album it's like their past selves as influences too

 

"451" is the highlight on here for me. The whole album is pretty great tho

 

I don't think anyone's assuming why anyone likes what they like just saying for a lot of people it is the nostalgia
