The bigger issue business-wise is Jax is a major Navy hub, and that represents a huge portion of families who go to games. People get piiiiiiiisssed when you don't respect the anthem here. There's definitely a lot of that "slavery was 150 years ago, you better appreciate your freedom" mentality among this town's rednecks and idiots.

The fanbase here is super conservative (they love Tebow for fucks sake) and it legitimately wouldn't be smart from that perspective.


(Still think they should sign Kaep and then move the team if it gets bad enough lol)

 

Khan needs to sell the Jags. The new owner needs to move them and clean house of everyone but DeCamillias, Hobby, McCardell, and maybe Fewell. Long Live Portland Snowhawks. or whatever that Madden team is

 

Thats now the 3rd time Ive seen the contract containing $30mil over the first two years. So in the scenario where he gets franchised twice, he makes less (~$26mil) than if he had signed this contract.

And if he gets hurt, again, he might not even make that. He's had a foot sprain, a hyperextended knee, an MCL tear, and a drug suspension that kept him from getting a long term deal last year. He's another drug suspension or ACL/MCL tear away from never seeing multi-year deals again in his career

 

Yea, just sad all around. I definitely worry with him missing all this time too, it's gonna be rough on him during the season.

 

I think they may get to a level of "they're so bad that why the hell not", maybe not the jags but another team with qb issues. If it can't get any worse you may just roll the dice idk

Also I think the raiders are a great spot for him, I think del rio would sign off on it but Davis wouldn't and he would be able to play in Nevada again but yea I'm not sure Davis would sign off

 

I'd give Marrone a chance with a new QB. He doesn't have much of a track record, he opted out of the Bills at a shitty time and has had no other major jobs... but I still just want to see.

Nate Hackett can get hacked asap. Bortles is an ugly project but he has only regressed since he got here.

But keep Wash as DC until he slips up. Don't fix what ain't broke. Defense is on the upswing.

I want to agree that it's ridiculous but I also laughed relentlessly at the Titans for keeping Mularkey and here we are

Marrone is an asshat. Why do you want to see? Why don't you want to succeed? Hackett isn't good. Wash isn't good. Why see? Why waste time and money? The defense is superb right now. If they play like anything but a top unit, it's entirely his fault. Why stick with mediocrity instead of striving to improve?

 

I agree with you on Hackett and actually think "asshat" is a great word to describe Marrone's former PR blunders... but he is actually extremely careful with the press now not to make the same mistake. I've appreciated the stark difference between what I have heard of him before and what I see now in our team press conferences. In terms of being a coach, I know absolutely nothing about him honestly, and neither do you.

But I like that actually, because most of the "available" coaches wouldn't come to Jax... and the ones that would, have already proven on 4 or 5 different teams they are bad. Marrone went what, 9-7 and then opted out because of a clash with the front office the one time he was a head coach. That's really not as bad as the alternatives, his head coaching career is fresh and we actually have given him a good roster to work with minus QB and OL.

I'm giving the dude two-three seasons, it's not like he's getting fired this year over a QB they know isn't the answer, you can choose to pout the whole time instead but that's what's probably happening.


Wash is a better D.C. than you give credit for. We can disagree about Marrone; I also fully accept the possibility that the 9-7 bills season that fell apart is as good as he gets. But honestly I'm not gonna take what Wash has done for granted. That's the only part of our 4 year failed rebuild that went in the right direction.

 

I was talking about what would fix the Jags. Moving, changing ownership, and changing coaches would fix the Jags. I don't suspect Marrone gets fired from Jax any time soon. Maybe Khan sells and cans them all. But realistically we churn out average season after average season and piss away every chance we had.

Yeah, because the talent did lol. He coached the defensive line for his first three seasons. He's done fine. Why are we praising fine? The defense is too talented now for fine. It should be elite or he should be fired.

 

Worst case scenario is probably bell taking the deal and then getting injured and missing out 8 games.

 

I know it's preseason but the Hawks are looking good!
