It is so sad to think this will be the last time I will ever hear a new Brand New album for the first time

No Control is the Not the Sun of the album for me. It's more typical than the rest of the songs but the instrumentation and lyrics have a lot of weight behind them and the vocal melodies are super pleasing

Same. It's #3 on my Brand New albums ranking already

  7. Apparently King Gizzard also surprise dropped an album today - poor them, no other music news can distract me from this

Okay, so I have a theory. This isn't the actual album. Remember how they scrapped what they were working on last year? What we are listening to right now is the scrapped album. Here are my points:

-the "seven years" portion of the Daisy callback. 2016 would have been seven years after that album, so this was intended to be on that iteration of the album (the scrapped one...)
-Sealed to Me, a song they played very frequently that seemed important to Jesse has not been released. He's saving it for the ACTUAL fifth LP
-the vinyl shipping in October still hasn't been specified to be Science Fiction. It is likely the actual LP5, out on October 13th to coincide with their tour dates
-Mene and I Am a Nightmare were going to be LP5 songs, or at least IAAN was confirmed to be in a press release which leads to my next point...
-on the album cover the girl in blue is going to hit the ground first. Blue represents sadness. This more somber collection of songs is being released as a treat. The red girl is going to land later. Red represents anger- intensity. This represents the true LP5 which will have Mene and IAAN on it.

...this was a shitpost btw. Don't post to Reddit.

Don't think about that man. It's release day. If every day we think "this might be the last time I do this thing" are we really enjoying it when it's happening??

Did anyone order the non-limited version today? Did you get the instant download? Today has been insane. Between waking up to Julien Baker and finding out about this album

14 years...I've been listening to this band for over half my life. Every album has gotten me through something, and this album is exactly what I needed right now. I'm sad this is probably the end but this is the most fitting ending for this band imaginable...defying expectations and stretching their artistry to unimaginable places until the very end, pouring every last drop of emotion they have into every detail.

I could be mistaken but the short little instrumental (at the end of In the Water?) sounded a little like Your Favorite Weapon vibes and would have been great to extended that into a full more pop punk track as a bit of a throwback on the album.

i will never forget today and the moment i learned that this was out.

and then seeing the album artwork for the first time.

and then reading the song titles.

and then the feeling i felt when i bought the album and actual got the download going (was apprehensive something would happen before that).

and then when the album started.

    what a day.

    what an album.

To be fair i was quick to judge i mean its obviously based on my first impression only. Reminds me of leaky brakes by MO in the sense that it's a slow burn/simmers but ya i need to spend way more time with it

Holy shit this first track is awesome.

I don't have the ear for music and sounds a lot of you do, so you'll mostly just be dealing with me saying whetehr I like something or not lol

But yeah, I definitely prefer soft/somber Brand New/Jesse and this first song is amazeballs.

for anyone wondering I think the 137 title is a reference to the fine-structure constant. It's a dimensionless number in physics meaning it's fundamentally "pure" to the universe and stays the same no matter what measurement system you use. Broadly, it contains information on the electromagnetic force between sub-atomic particles and, were it slightly different, would result in a universe incapable of supporting intelligent life, so is a bit of a mystery as to how we got so lucky (unless you consider the anthropic principle). Anyways, considering the content of the lyrics to that song, it's my best guess.
