I'm not gonna lie, I don't give a shit what fans who wanted another SA think. That's just an unbelievable opinion to me

lol I mean it's not that I wanted another SA, but just more of the YC we all know and loved. I have warmed up to it and the title Track and Crash the Gates always get on my mixes, but overall the people who love the album are in the minority.

Oh no I didn't take offense, just shedding some light :-) That being said, it's a pretty good album with only a few tracks I would skip.

I mean, I understand that, but I feel like they exhausted that sound honestly. I just don't know what else they were gonna do going in that direction. To me, it felt like Lift a Sail was the next logical step. And I still think it sounds like Yellowcard. I don't think it was as drastic of a change as some made it out to be.

Which ones would you skip, just out of curiosity?

I have no idea, I felt like they exhausted it with Paper Walls but then gave us one of my 2nd favorite by them WYDTSY. Then I thought they couldn't do any more with that sound and bam they gave us my all time YC favorite SA. I thought they were on a roll and that is why I was disappointed upon first release. I totally get it though and wasn't one of those "f this band and this cd" fans, just didn't dig it as much.

    - Transmission Home (Sounds heavy and awesome live but on cd it's....missing something to me)
    - Make Me So ( no explanation needed)

Side 2 of Lift a Sail is the best side of their discography. I generally tend to think that the last three are their best records though.

  10. I grew to like SA over time, but when it came out I saw it as frustratingly by-the-book Yellowcard and was mad that they weren't using their successful revival to broaden their horizons at all. LaS was the album they absolutely needed to put out imo, the fact that it's a fantastic record is just a plus

Paper Walls is my most ideal YC album. Has a little of everything on there.

But over the last couple years with some major transitions in my life (in a serious relationship, moved across the the country), Lift a Sail has meant a lot to me. When it first came out I didn't really care for it. I didn't think it was bad, but my stubbornness didn't allow me to appreciate until later on. "It wasn't the YC I loved". Now I'd consider it up there in the top 3 of their albums.

Southern Air is great too, it just reminds me of some bad times in my life. For that, I can't really listen to it.

For me it's quite the opposite: when Lift a Sail came out I wasn't into it, but I still thought it was enjoyable; now the few times I listen to it I find it more and more boring every time. Not sure why to be fair. I do like MSK and the title track though.

The way people probably feel when I say I love Lights and Sounds is how I feel when people say they like Lift a Sail

Lift a Sail might be my second favorite behind Paper Walls. Crazy to me how lukewarm fans outside of this site are about the last two records. I mean I love their classic signature sound too but c'mon.

All of their albums are good but I think they peaked with Paper Walls. I never really expected anything after that so to get 4 more albums is awesome. The last 2 albums have the least plays for me. I appreciate them but never felt compelled to replay over and over.

I love that Three Flights Down and Keeper are on there.

Id probably only swap Shadows and Regrets with Five Becomes Four bc that song is always in their set list and seems to be a fan favorite. Id also probably throw Date Line in there only bc that's my favorite YC song haha.

    Awesome read though!

There are a lot of great songs on Paper Walls that I just couldn't find room for. "Shadows and Regrets" was an early favorite, so that one sticks out for me from that album, but some of the darker stuff on there, like "Five Becomes Four" and "You and Me and One Spotlight" is super great too.
