I love just about everything Romano has released, and I don't care for the new song at all. Still very excited for his new album, but I hope that track is an outlier.

Was listening to the new album by the I Don't Cares earlier today and its one of the best rock records I've heard this year. Thought it might be relevant to people in this thread since its Paul Westerburgs new band and I know on ap there were some replacements fans.

Fans of Dawes should really check out Jackie Greene. Similar vocal timbre to Taylor Goldsmith, similar influences, and a similar approach to classic-style songwriting.

Like what I'm hearing from Jackie Greene. Definitely hear more than a bit of Counting Crows in there, too.

Guess I should check out Dawes. I do like the one song I've heard by them

Even if you aren't huge on their albums, if you ever get a chance to see them live do it. They are one of the best live bands out there, I saw them last week and they killed it. Each time I've seen them has been better than the last.

Wat? Didn't you put a song of theirs on you mix for the mixtape exchange thread? Yes, I would say, if you like that song, you should definitely listen to their records. I've said it before in this thread, but I don't think there's an artist that's released a stronger set of three albums this decade.

Yep! That's the one song I've heard. Several of those songs were just things I heard on my Spotify "Discover Weekly" playlist and liked. I thought putting them on there would be a good reminder to look further into them

So yeah I definitely plan on checking them out

Anyone ever listen to the "The Pulse of Americana" playlist on Spotify? They always have some good stuff in there I don't know about.

It's a good playlist. I'm familiar with a good chunk of the stuff on there, but I can definitely recommend this to people who are looking to delve deeper into the genre.

Yeah some of it is fairly popular artists but it seems like I always discover something new. For instance, you ever heard this song by Phoebe Bridgers? It's super depressing and I love it.

Haven't heard that one, but I'll check it out!

Doesn't seem like the new album is going to be much of a country album....

Finally getting around to writing about Parker Millsap's The Very Last Day. What a terrific record that is. Probably my favorite album of the year so far.

Also mine so far. He has a bright future ahead of him for sure.

I knew he was young, but I didn't realize he was only 23. Pretty insane that he can make a record like this (and sound like that) when he's that young. A bright future indeed.

    jdr2187

Yeah I saw him open for isbell a few months back and he commented on how everybody only wants to talk about his age and how young he is when the focus should be on how great the songs he is writing are. It won't be long before he is mentioned right beside some of the biggest names in the genre. Are you a fan of his first 2 albums?

  23. Craig Manning

    @FurtherFromSky Moderator

I'm not sure if I ever listened to them, to be honest. I think I'd heard the name before this year, but never got around to listening to his stuff. Definitely going to go back once I finish up this review, though. I just wanted to write about him and have this set of songs be the complete focus before going back.

I saw Parker 4 times last year but haven't listened to this new album much. He did play a lot of these songs then, though.

Listening to John Hiatt tonight. Bring the Family is a heck of a record.
