I really never understood Platinum trophies. You need a trophy after you get all the other trophies?

Tacoma was really good in a lot of the ways Gone Home was - it was so kind and human and meticulously designed - it did suffer how carefully discrete, almost to the point of feeling episodic, it was - but goddamn was that an interesting mechanic for a walking sim to elevate its narrative game

in faaaaaaact, you can hear my extended thoughts here on my podcast

Achievements and trophies take any and all of what I consider fun about gaming out of the equation

Personally I don't actively (sometimes, I guess) pursue them because when I see them it just makes a game feel like a chore. I was playing RE7 a few days ago and I hated how every other cutscene I was rewarded for just going through the game. Granted not every game does trophies like that, but also just hearing that click and seeing that achievement unlocked panel on the top left screen took me away from the atmosphere of the game.

But I can see why people would appreciate having them in-game. They are optional, after all. Now I'm just thinking what games did trophies/achievements right.

Target around has been pretty routinely stocked with the switch lately, if they have them come payday Friday I may have to buy one.

I used to be big into achievement points in the 360 age too, but it felt kinda pointless on the new gen.

The only time I'm sort of amused by Achievements is when I do something crazy in a game and a Rare Achievement pops up. It makes me appreciate the fact that the developers thought of this shit.

I used to love achievements on 360 and I really like trophies on my PS4 so it is a shame there's no platinum for Sonic Mania because I feel like that's definitely a game where I'd go for it but deciding not to buy a get based on whether it has one or not is ludicrous.

I was half paying attention playing Batman last night and made a pretty annoying fuck up in a conversation. Hit the wrong button because I was rushed and it was the WRONG CALL. And I felt so pissed for the remainder of the episode haha.

Achievements are neat but I never particularly cared about getting them is all. I think it's a cool concept if done well.

I like seeing achievements pop up on the screen from time to time, especially if they're for doing something stupid or random that's not key to the main story of a game. Generally though I don't pay too much attention to them and don't go out of my way to 100% a game, still it's cool that some people like to do that.

Achievements all the way! I love obtaining them and reaching goals set by the developers.

The people on this site (except for myself and maybe a few others) are clearly not achievement hunters and that's fine. At one point I would call it a subculture but at this point it's growing pretty rapidly and the fact that a site like TrueAchievements is one of the most popular websites out there is proof of that.

Like I said, it's totally cool if you aren't an achievement hunter.

I used to go for achievements pretty hardcore due to my brothers being serious about them. Once I moved out, got married and had a baby I scaled back because I don't have the time to 100% every game. Now I get what I can when I can and move on.

As someone who has a lot of nostalgia for Genesis Sonic, Sonic Mania is AWESOME. It looks perfect and the level design is so good. Three zones in and there's a little bit of everything I could want from Sonic level design - the two throwback zones I've played have had a great combination of bits and pieces of the old levels, huge areas with all sorts of paths and exploration and fun, surprising new mechanics and ideas. The one new zone I got to was fantastic as well, bright and inventive with its own new types of springs/platformers/launchers. The music is excellent and the boss battles have been amazing. SECOND ZONE ACT 2 SPOILER the Mean Bean Machine boss battle was so, so cool. One complaint is that I never liked the blue orb special stages in Sonic CD so seeing them return here is a bit of a bummer. The Chaos Emerald special stage I did was cool though. Really glad this game came through, very satisfied so far and I can't wait to see what else this throws at me.

I don't have much of a desire to play sonic mania. I was never really into the 2d sonics. I love Sonic Battle Adventure 1 and 2.
