Why I’ve Decided NOT to Be Silent About Online Harassment

 

I have a hard enough time teaching this era of history right now!

In the future, it might be easier because we will have had some time to reflect on it, but it might also be harder because we will have had some time to see the awful impacts it will have and need to explain why we didn't do more to prevent it even though we all saw it happening in real-time.

 

Came here to post this. I thought the line about how offputting harassment makes journalism was especially important. I have 200 followers on Twitter and I still feel uncomfortable posting anything about feminism. All it takes is a single tweet for the MRAs to come around and threaten rape and murder. God forbid you write an article. It's so fucked up that the only people with any power to do anything about it don't even consider it a problem. Jack wouldn't last a single day as a feminist on Twitter.

 

Last night I said "Jake Tapper is okay besides being a total fucking bootlicker on Twitter"

 

Has anyone found themselves making sure they enjoy things more? I know it seems excessive but on the off chance this becomes something real, I want to have as much fun as I can before.

Probably recently. I've got extended family over there and they all are like that. Basically they think Grump is an idiot and makes it worse but they don't don't care so much.

Meh, I can see why a lot of young Jewish people feel that way.

Completely anecdotal, but a former student of mine who's jewish and is in school for PoliSci is on twitter of course and we follow each other, but saw her like a tweet that was something like "The far left hates Jews, the far right hates Jews, the center sucks and i'm a poli sci major and can't escape" or something like that.

I don't personally feel strongly about the BDS movement either way but from all the younger Jews I know, there def seems to be some shit getting flung their way that makes them feel a certain way.
