this article, linked in there, is 6 weeks old or so, but reading it again reminds me so much of why i hate him French Puzzle Over Macron as Their New President Gathers Up Power

i don't think anyone will be glad if Le Pen succeeds in Macron's succession, or that it's "his fault" he went up against her in the run-off. we just believe that should she benefit from his authoritarianism, attacks on labor, and generally technocratic policy, then we're going to allocate blame to him. and, even if she doesn't, we'll still give him shit because his policies suck.
