I'd put every album but Get Hurt over everything Finn's ever done.

Finn is a better songwriter but gaslight has em beat in every other department imo

I could never get into the Gaslight Anthem, something about Brian's voice

Brian's voice took a while to grow on me too but I love in now

The Hold Steady are great. Finn's solo material is not my cup of tea, though.

  6. The Hold Steady and Gaslight are both great bands, Gaslight is better, but Craig Finn solo > Fallon solo

I don't listen to either that much anymore but would definitely pick Hold Steady. Not necessarily the same type of band

Drove out to see Las Vegaaaaaas

I honestly have never listened beyond that song but it gets played at a local pop-punk/emo/alt night club quite a bit and it's great.

People who moan about new pop-punk bands not being catchy or complaining they aren't good are simply old and past it as listeners. Listen to that last Neck Deep album and tell me it's not covered in hooks on tracks like Lime Street, Kali Ma or Smooth Seas.

I don't think that's true, I think there's a severe lack of hooks (and creative songwriting) in modern pop punk. That Neck Deep album has three or four songs that are sorta passable.

I don't think either of these is wrong. There are some bands out there who I think are just genuinely boring, not catchy, and not very good (Neck Deep, Knuckle Puck). But age has to do with it too. If I was 16 I'm sure I'd be all over Waterparks (I listened a little before the ATL tour and I thought they were pretty decent), As It Is, and State Champs. What I'm trying to say is that to some extent, I think there are a lot of bands that really just aren't as good as older pop-punk bands, but the cynicism that comes with age also plays a role.

Hey, I said it would be unpopular. Older pop punk fans saying they have heard it before (I remember being told on AP that the ND album wouldn't elevate them because they'd heard similar albums before), which might be true, but it doesn't take into account that this is a genre mostly populated by younger fans who weren't there for the self titled era NFG days or the early Sum 41 days.

Legit couldn't be further from my opinion on those bands (other than State Champs who are good) haha.

I've always leaned on the poppier side of pop-punk, so that's probably part of it too.

Two of the three Mayday Parade songs I've enjoyed. Ocean and Atlantic being the third and best.

State Champs are probably the best of the bunch, but they're still hit or miss and I wish they'd go all in on the pop side of their sound.

S/T > ALIR > I don't even care enough to rank the rest

I have complicated feelings towards Mayday. I saw them too many times in a short amount of time, which usually isn't a problem for me, but I just ended up so bored with them. I still like them enough that when they played Riot Fest in 2015 I made sure to go, and I plan to go this year barring any serious conflict, but I will probably not ever go see them on their own again, unless they do a S/T anniversary show. The ALIR 10-year wasn't even enough to get me there.

Generally, I just think they usually have a few good songs on each album, but not really worth listening to them in depth.

Mayday Parade may be the best band to come out of my city. And that makes me very sad.
