What drives me nuts is that the biggest reason I held off is the apologist nature of Leftovers fans in their saying "you just have to get through season 1", because with a show this short, you're telling me that 33% of it is lackluster. I'm a 45 year old inside: most of my weeknights are watching three episodes of something. I have plenty of shows I would identify as having "slow" first seasons. But this is not one of them. I love that it is has an anthology vibe to it in that each character gets the lion's share of an episode to themselves, but the other characters are still present.

the "get thru s1" stuff is a defense mechanism. I love the first season but have talked to several people that started it and it was just too bleak for them. To be fair, the second and third season are better in just about every conceivable way.
