It's amazing how many Saw/Fast and the Furious movies there are, you'd think that well would run dry very quickly

they literally have to put zero effort into the script and people will still show up in droves.

im not hating at all either...why spend time on a good script when you can write whatever bullshit you want and print money every two years?

Embarrassing story time: after Saw 2 came out I wrote a fan letter to Shawnee Smith and got so sad she didn't return it a la "Stan" by Eminem

I'm starting to kinda be on @Ken's side about it, like I can enjoy Marvel movies but I definitely get it as far as it kinda being the same stuff rehashed each movie but presented in different ways

But they can still be enjoyable so no hate, it obviously works

I think there are flaws in the MCU, for sure, but to say there's no script is kind of a diss to any writer that's ever written. It's the most ambitious writing project in the history of cinema--and only rivaled in literature by the interconnectedness of Stephen King's Dark Tower novels/related readings and Brandon Sanderson's Cosmere. You can 100% not enjoy the end visual product, but there's more planning, writing, and scripting taking place in the MCU than pretty much anywhere right now.

It's super exciting, crossing mediums, and showing a very different sort of tent-pole storytelling than we've ever seen before.

yeah same. i don't get excited about them anymore but enjoy watching them enough when i do. i know ken vehemently disagrees but the Guardians movies were a fun watch. Homecoming was a good coming of age comedy disguised as a superhero movie

Idk about all that. Sure, it connects many characters, but does that make it all that ambitious?

Guardians 1 is one of the best superhero movies out there. Guardians 2 is one of the worst. Both still a blast to watch for entirely different reasons.

The MCU movies do their job, being a fun 2 and half hours why are they all that long movies are too long now but that's another story, I watch different kinds of movies with a different lens

It was a huge financial gamble asking people to care about so many characters. Casting and excellent writing in phase one did a ton of footwork that allowed Marvel to step forward and say, "Okay, now care about Ant-Man and Dr. Strange." Creating a universe where the Netflix series exists in the same movie universe is also ambitious. You're asking people to care not just for two hours in a theater anymore, but to invest hours at home. And pretty much across the board, they're delivering on the promise of it "being worth it." It's pretty damn hard to get a majority of people to invest in a sprawling mythos guiding a story. They're not doing a cult project, they're doing a globally watched one.

I think after Infinity Wars, the MCU may have a hard time establishing an identity again. But to take so many wildly different narratives and suddenly connect them? When has that been done outside the written word before?
