In years to come, we will all remember the great Chorus FM Counterparts - 1975 war of 2017.

I'm late to the party again, reiterating much of what has already been said with a special 1975 twist:

I agree that bands should not be faulted for being on problematic labels when they are also agents for positive change. Same goes for bands having problematic lyrics at the same time they have empowering ones. The "product" can be tangentially associated with some bad people or business practices but at the end of the day the consumer has the power to take that and meld it into something great. This aligns well with one of the many nebulous, brilliant but not entirely unhypocritical things Matty has said:

"We create in the way we consume".

It's about being cognizant of what it is you're choosing to consume.

One of the things I personally love about this band is how they can have songs like "Loving Someone" and "Ugh" but then talk in interviews about wanting to empower their female fans yet are self-aware enough to make fun of this paradox in songs like "The Sound".

These guys capture the neuroses of the era really well in pop music. Outright admitting you're taking advantage of capitalism with your art is a better position to be in then to insist you're undermining it.

@Jason Tate, could you repost The 1975 interview from AP.net on Chorus?

If I remember right, the content of that interview saw Matty just beginning to formulate his ideas on the matter speaking broadly about pop music being something that shouldn't be viewed as shameful but empowering.

PS: Both Counterparts and that Robbers cover slay.

I've never asked about this in the other thread but does anyone's ILIWYS white vinyl have a lot of crackling? No skips, just cracklong. Blasting it after getting off work early and remembered it now.

Well, that was quite the catch-up. Honestly sometimes when you hear references in one thread to things going on in another thread you feel like you're the only one not caught up with the latest hit TV series. Serious Thread FOMO.

Not to mention they will have Music For Cars out and I'm sure they will tour all over for the next few years supporting it before Drive Like I Do comes out with their debut.

That guy is crazy to even consider people won't still be hyped about them in 18 months time.

Speaking of Music For Cars, I'm stoked!
