They're definitely drafting a QB fairly high next year no matter what happens

We just cannot dismiss that he had a 27/2 TD/INT ratio. It might be worth discussing. Ya know, internally and stuff.

If only there was a quarterback who was more successful four years ago that wouldn't require trading a pick....

His paycheck and tenure suggests otherwise. Franchise doesn't mean good.

Undoubtledly at this point, especially since it'll be twice in 2 years on the same knee.

And is there any more "Patriots/Belichick" move than trading Jimmy G to the Dolphins for a series of high picks (lets call it 2018 1st and 2019 conditional pick) and he busts out hilariously. In a way, its the only proper way for this to end. And then Jacoby Brissett goes on to become a hall of famer

Hell, until he was cut, Jay Cutler was a "franchise" QB. To the point that the idea of not paying him $18+ mil/yr was absurd despite him not being good.

The organization and Tannehill (plus his camp) are complete dumbasses for just not having it repaired in the first place.

Even if this didn't happen, I wonder how that injury would've messed with his mind, especially after getting hit. He wouldn't be able to trust himself as an athlete with that kind of injury lingering.

    100% healed...bullshit.

This late in the process, I would rather have Jay Cutler over Colin Kaepernick because of scheme familiarity.

Kaepernick would only have a month to learn protections, concepts, and checks in a new system. Cutler has played for Gase before, so the transition for EVERY offensive player would most likely go more smoothly.

It's not like you just sign a QB and plug him in. We're just weeks away from the season. If they sign Kap, Matt Moore should start the first few games if they want a chance.

So basically, you're choosing mind over body in a sport that requires the latter.

If a QB goes out there and doesn't have a full grasp of the playbook, it stunts the development of the other ten players out there plus the five or six depth players they'll use in packages.

It's just too late in the process. There's way more to it than just sending him out there to throw and run, which I'm sure you know.

You're correct. But what happens when you send a guy out there who hasn't studied or practiced in months? You're basically sending out a guy who is a couple steps above your run of the mill 35 year old. They'll send out a guy under the thin excuse of "well he knows the playbook" and then you have a guy who knows the playbook injured on the sidelines for twelve games. You can risk stunting the development or you can risk losing them altogether. If you prove to be that big of a joke of an organization, why would you stay?

Dolphins should just tank and take the Jets guy one pick before them. It'd be the greatest.

If my team is trying to bridge to a rookie in 2018, I'd rather have someone that already knows the offense for the sake of the other offensive players.

Matt Moore is a better option than both of them, but the arguments for Kaepernick in this situation just don't make sense to me. It's not about who is better at this point, it's about who is the best fit.

Neither makes sense to me. You have Matt Moore. Bringing in someone to tank who knows the playbook makes no sense to me. Bringing someone in tells me they want to win and Kaepernick is in shape and a better player. Cutler knows the playbook but if he makes it even half the season I would be shocked.

If they sign Jay Cutler, they are clearly not trying to tank. I know it was two seasons ago and he's basically retired, but Cutler had a great year with Gase in 2015. I don't think he'll help that much, but if they want Landry, Parker, and maybe even Carroo to continue their development, it's the right move. People just want to look at games. It's meetings and practice too.

If they do end up signing a quarterback, I would understand why it's Cutler. It will just be irritating to see all of the Colin Kaepernick blackballed stuff all over again, when this kind of signing can be easily explained.

one of the Niners beat guys posted that Gase had an entire offensive scheme for Kaep when he interviewed with the NIners last year

i think Gase is smart enough to know how to use Kaepernick, and I also think Cutler would probably suck and get hurt.

While Cutler would be a better add for the preseason and a good locker room piece to offer guidance, for the reasons Anton said... if he wants franchise money it's not worth it. I give it like a 85% chance it'd be a waste of 18 million dollars.

It might be rough to transition Kaep in but Miami has a talented OC who knows how to abridge the shortcomings of his roster. The guess here is that a Kaep offense would get better as the season goes on. In terms of wideouts, Landry and Carroo would benefit, Parker probably would not because his skill set is over the top of the defense, not underneath it. Landry and Carroo would get more underneath routes that Kaep can hit naturally on rollout plays.

The good thing about Kaep is, he doesn't really need to be "on", in terms of reading the defense, to still be hard to stop and pick up chunks of yards. His improv game is really good and if Miami kept running the ball primarily they could get by without their passing offense being too sophisticated. Better defenses would slow them down but I mean shit, I take 8-8 with Kaep over 5-11 with Cutler any day.

The Cutler-Kaepernick debate makes me want Romo to come out of nowhere and go to Miami
