Someone from reddit I think took the James Dean that DFace did and combined it with the artwork we have already.

I think "Story of a Lonely Guy" is great musically, but the lyrics represent my problem with TOYPAJ, which is that Tom was writing lyrics as if he was still in high school when he was in his 20s. It doesn't ruin the album for me, because those songs still sound great from a musical and production standpoint. Mark's songs on that album have held up much better for me.

  8. Ditto on everything. But, Please Take Me Home is one of Tom's best songs. I just have to cringe at some of the lyrics he put out on TOYPAJ though, especially on songs like Anthem Pt. 2 and Give Me One Good Reason

There has to be something following them in the sky or behind the car right? A skeleton guy and a woman just driving in a car would be weird as hell for a cover.

  10. They're trying to get out of the shadow of a helicopter

  11. If it were not for self titled, TOYPAJ would be my favorite Blink album and I can't say it's be really that close. EOTS is fun for a nostalgic listen, but outside of a few songs I just don't think it has aged very well for me.

Honestly, I'd say Mark had the more immature lyrics on TOYPAJ. Songs about instant messaging and sneaking into girl's windows because her parents are out of town are a lot worse than a song about a first date or a memorable summer. Tom's lyrics about hating preps is almost enough to make me retract that statement though hahaha.

Damn. Streaming KROQ is a blocked site for me at work. Any good mobile suggestions?

  13. We can probably all agree that TOYPAJ has most of the band's worst lyrics, unless you want to start looking Buddha or Cheshire Cat more critically which isn't worth the time

Weren't they also pressured by their label at the time during the making of TOYPAJ? That could contribute to why the lyrics are weak on that album. They were pressured to make simple, radio-friendly songs, they've said so themselves. That's the only thing I can think of, cause even Enema has better lyrics than TOYPAJ.

I don't think the search light lyric has anything to do with this.

Buddha and Cheshire Cat have some good lyrics.

"You think your words will work. They only work when you lay down and close your eyes. I thought of all the lines. All the right ones used at all the wrong times. But that's alright. Depression's just a sarcastic state of mind"

I can't even fathom Tom coming up with something like that these days.

  17. The story I've heard over and over again is that they presented some songs to the label, and the label told them to write more radio-friendly songs. They came back with The Rock Show and First Date, haha.

But that's were first date and rock show came from.the way I understood it was that the rest of the album was done and the label felt like they didn't have a strong single, so they wrote those.

You're right, but who's to say that some of the other songs weren't written after the pressure from the label as well? Cause seriously, half the album was kinda radio friendly during that time, so who knows.

Agreed on "Please Take Me Home." Along with "Roller Coaster" and "Everytime I Look For You," it's in my top 3 on TOYPAJ.

Please Take Me Home is nothing special.

Also imagine writing Story of a Lonely Guy at age 26

When I listen to the bonus tracks from TOYPAJ, I can't believe Don't Tell Me It's Over didn't make the cut.

Is t possible that the art clips they've released could be the middle and the title or band name could be below on the front/grill of the car?
