Noah Gundersen - White Noise (September 22, 2017) Album • Page 5

Discussion in 'Music Forum' started by Craig Manning, Jul 7, 2017.

  1. Assuming Craig is talking about "Cocaine Sex and Alcohol" and I disagree with him completely. I really like the song. It's very Radiohead-esqe at times.

That's the one. Definitely a Radiohead, Kid A feel, but I kind of hate Kid A, so there we are.

Haha, I've definitely had this conversation in that thread at some point. At least I think I have! Just not a Radiohead guy, beyond a few tracks here and there.

"Like Ross playing keyboards in Friends." That, right there -- why Craig's my go-to writer on music.

Ross playing the keyboard in Friends is one of my favorite things in the entire series

I keep replaying "The Sound" and it's not getting old at all. Very excited by the prospect of a new song in a couple of days!

The theme of this one doesn't resonate with me quite as much as Carry the Ghost, but I love his willingness to tackle these big ideas on an album-length scale. He's such an underrated talent. Wish he would get more attention beyond our site.

  17. Carry The Ghost and Ledges are both great but if The Sound is any indication of this album as a whole, it will be my runaway favorite

It's...sort of indicative? Not quite as representative of the record as "Slow Dancer" was of Carry the Ghost.

I don't think this will pass either Ledges or Ghost for me, but that's more a statement on how much I love those records than anything else.

So is the theme of this record basically the same as Everything Now?

More or less, except not horribly executed.

I think you'll like this one more, regardless. Noah's take is a lot deeper and more nuanced, I think, while also being a little less...judgmental of his audience? I'm interested to chat with him about that side of things tomorrow, because I think it's a tough line to walk.

I definitely expect more nuance from Noah (who's 100x the lyricist Win Butler is), and that's a valid criticism of the Arcade Fire album. My views on it will definitely be evolving, but it's nowhere near the dumpster fire most reviews seem to be painting it as. There's only 1 truly bad song on it.

For those of us who do not listen to Arcade Fire and don't understand the reference, what is the theme?

    what a waste of wood

Basically the negative effect of a world that revolves so much around social media and mass amounts of "noise". Meaning soulless content and stuff like that.
