I like around 5 songs from deluxe, and 4 from standard lol.

  2. I've barely listened to them. Found no desire to go back to them, maybe I should at some point. I remember nothing about them to be honest.

  3. I've listened to the Deluxe songs probably 10 times through. Much less than the standard California tracks. Parking Lot rules.

And, to be fair, I honesty think the lyrics are the least controversial thing I can criticize on California, or so I thought. I also don't find Skiba to be that interesting of a vocalist when singing with Mark, at least compared to the dichotomy present with Tom/Mark songs. In addition, as has been touched on repeatedly, a lot of songs rely on similar song structures and melodies as well as the "na na nas".

I suppose I'm so hard on the new album because I genuinely am baffled how many people go to bat for it while criticizing defining albums within the band's career. It's so odd to me that people who live and die for this band would rather call their entire catalogue's lyrics "weak" and not engaging in conversation vs. looking critically about their new music.

And while I do agree that I don't really see this as the real "Blink" without Tom, I find it insufferable and childish for people to keep writing comments like that on their Facebook page.

I blocked OhTheWater it's entertaining seeing just the rational side of the discussion lol. Not a ton of things I find more irritating than a pretentious self-proclaimed punker

I like Skiba. It's a different dynamic that what we had with Tom, but there are some places where Skiba makes certain songs on the new album shine. No Future, Cynical, HISALP, Left Alone. I think he works well with Mark on those and more.

I love this band, but I can admit it's faults on old albums and new albums. I love it all. Even my least favorite blink album stands out above a lot of the other stuff I listen to. I know I am a total fan boy (@truelovewaits will attest to that), but I am proud of it.

I hope I don't actually have to waste thread posts confirming that that entire schtick was me fucking around, right?

He's fine, sure. I'm an Alk3 fan. I just don't particularly find his voice drastically different than Mark's, and the dynamic that Tom/Mark had on the earlier albums are one of the main reasons I loved the band so much.

The only song I can agree he sounds similar to Mark is his chorus on BTD the very first time I heard it. I thought it was Mark. On the rest of that song and the album, I can clearly tell who it is and how different it is. I actually have come to like Skiba a lot more from his parts on these albums and I liked alkaline before. Again, I admit it's not the same as Tom and marks dynamic but it works at least IMO.

Oh, yeah, I mean I can tell them apart from each other on the songs, I just find them a bit too samey/the harmonies not very interesting

To answer that question, Van Morrison, Bomb the Music Industry or Kanye West. So much material to choose from with a wide variety of styles.

They were fucking great last night. Played Wendy Clear and also let two fans come up and takeover bass and drums for Dumpweed. Definitely would have swapped some songs for others and still don't understand closing with Los Angeles but whatever

I love Matt Skiba more than most people but he did seem a little off yesterday. Still was great though
