The most moving song on the album is Home... and even those lyrics are hurting

"I love the lightning but hate the rain
    Tomorrow's frightening but not today
Wish I could slow down time
But not enough to slow you down"

Hardly. Lyrics have never been this band's forte. They're as insipid now as they were then. And I love it.

I swear I am in the movie Groundhog Day half the time I come on this thread.

They've never been particularly strong or anything but their earlier works inarguably have stronger lines

I'd argue with you, but that era is god's gift to earth in your opinion and you won't be swayed so it would be wasted breath.

I'm also unsure how the comments about the band always having vapid lyrics and people being somehow proud of that are less offensive than me giving the band credit for their stronger lyrics

Have a conversarion about it? Why act like that?

Because, and not to be a jerk, a 'conversation' with you never seems to be an equaled measured conversation. I've never once seen you admit being wrong.

I have pretty in depth conversations within multiple threads on a daily basis? I'm providing lyrical evidence for my point. Kinda confused at the pettiness

And wrong about what? An opinion?

This coming from the guy who says people's opinions are wrong all the time. Look man, I can throw dude Ranch lyrics at you and try to prove you wrong but in the end, if the lyrics are deep or not is subjective at best. What you think is deep I may think is as shallow as a puddle. So even if I thought there was a chance of having an argument with the biggest hipster I've ever met, it wouldn't go anywhere in this subject

....so anyways who is hoping they play Parking Lot at the Metro show

Was the point of you posting the FB comments so that everyone could agree and form an echo chamber? That's boring, why not engage with a dissenting opinion.

This went far away from what I had posted, and I want none of whatever you two got going on ATM lol

If by "all the time" you mean this past weekend when I was having some fun with people regarding Dude Ranch vs. California, sure.

To clarify, the only interactions that we've had have been you calling me out, you posting a meme and you refusing to engage in an actual conversation with me regarding the band that we both probably like a lot.

I just think it's fair for people to not view the band as the same after losing one of the core members, it happens all of the time.

I'd absolutely call their entire catalog immature, or at least bordering on it. With that being said I still think there's a pretty big gap between the quality of lyrics on the pre-hiatus albums and what follows. I honestly don't listen to Neighborhoods enough to know any of them, so I can't speak on that

  17. I think they're all lacking in different ways. The early albums are very much in the vein of that kind of bratty pop-punk and the lyrics reflect that (for better or worse). ST and Neighborhoods tried to reach a little deeper, with various degrees of success. California goes back to an early Cali-pop-punk kind of lyrical vibe and I find them fine, for the most part. Nothing great, but nothing that bugs me on a consistent level. I am less turned off than the faux-serious lyrics if I had to be be honest.

You know what, you are right. I am going off what I have seen of you which isn't a lot. Your first impressions of me left a bad taste, but you say you were kidding I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. I am also on a lack of sleep from two newborn twins so I may be testy. My apologies.

I just think their lyrics had more charm coming from 20-somethings than 40 year olds

I think this is where my head is at, coupled with the age in which I got into the music

  22. I just realized I've listened to the Deluxe songs ... maybe twice? front to back ... and not many of them by themselves at all. Not a good sign. Hm.

Agree, to an extent. Why you'll never catch me listening to AVA or why I find "I Miss You" insufferable. I guess the "faux" aspect is what bugs me so much about California. Faux-bratty pop punk lyrics.

You don't like Last Train Home? Good Old Days? Misery? thought those were album worthy
