I won't vote because I've never listened to these guys, but I am glad I influenced you to do this @Mister Lyrical lol

 

It makes sense in the context of the narrative but as it happened I'm fairly sure the bonus tracks were recorded in sessions not related to The Upsides itself; as an album postscript instead of candidates for inclusion on the original record. If it were me, I'd swap My Last Semester and Logan Circle, and then have Bar Bands as the penultimate track that fades into Logan Circle: A New Hope, so you get two sets of bookends.

Now I think about it, that would have been a VERY Wonder Years move, hahah.

 

i also wasnt in the band yet so like that song couldnt have happened on the upsides pfft

i also feel that soup needed the months to reflect on the record to actually write those lyrics anyway.

 

Would be supremely meta if we get @nicksteinborn to start voting on these once we move onto the newer albums.

Edit: Also it's looking like we might have a couple ties so he'd be a very nice tie-breaker

 

A bit disappointed that the RNG didn't bring out Logan Circle vs Logan Circle: A New Hope. I'd be interested to see which people prefer. I'm definitely in the latter camp.

 

Me vs. the Highway is possibly my favourite song of all time. Glad to see a fellow believer

 

Cigarettes and Saints is one of my favorite songs of the last several years, even though I'm not sure if it's my favorite TWY song, so part of me is kind of pulling for it to win it all. At the same time, this band has one of the stronger catalogues I've encountered so who knows how I'll feel when it actually goes up against other songs.

"Dynamite Shovel" vs "Everything I Own Fits In This Backpack"
Dynamite's a fun little jam but Backpack is one of the best songs on the record, that bridge is killer, and some of Soupy's best lyrics.

"I Was Scared And I'm Sorry" vs "Hey Thanks"
Similar scenario as the last one, Hey Thanks is fun but there's more substance to Scared and Sorry.

"Leavenhouse 11:30" vs "We Won't Bury You"
Leavenhouse always seems to get ignored and it's a hell of song and ode to the band's beginnings. I appreciate the meaning behind We Won't Bury You though.

"Logan Circle" vs "It's Never Sunny In South Philadelphia"
This might be the hardest pick this round, it might partly be to the overplaying of Logan Circle (I still love New Hope way more) but everything about It's Never Sunny speaks to me.

"Melrose Diner" vs "This Party Sucks"
Melrose Diner wins solely for how much this song rips live.

"Washington Square Park" vs "All My Friends Are In Bar Bands"
These guys penultimate tracks and closers are always great, and it bums me out one of them has to get killed off so early. Washington Square Park wins due to how the band plays it live and the crowd interaction.

"Hostels & Brothels" vs "New Years With Carl Weathers"
Neither of these tracks ever get enough love but Hostels is my favorite of the two. Wish it got played live more often.

"My Last Semester" vs "Logan Circle: A New Hope"
My Last Semester wins entirely because of how the beginning of The Upsides takes me back to 2010 and exactly how I was feeling at the time. Wish more people listened to ANH though.
