Really enjoyed the Sansa/Theon/Brienne stuff. Dorne continues to be a complete joke.

 

Yeah I feel like we don't really have a good reason to care about Dorne at this point. Oberyn was a cool character, but he's gone and I don't super like any of the other Dornish characters so far.

 

I guess the only explanation there is that the Sand Snakes followed in another boat and boarded when Jamie went into King's Landing. They made a point to show the ship still out on the water.

Also where did those *very vicious dogs* go as soon as Brienne showed up?

And Mel was shown without the necklace in previous episodes so that's interesting....

 

Maybe it's only when she removes the necklace, and looks into a really blurry/withered gold mirror she reverts back to her true self.

 

I'm afraid of where things are going now that they don't have source material.

Someone on reddit addressed this like a year ago in an eerily accurate manner haha. Worth a read. And in the inside the episode for the premiere David Benioff mentioned that they talked about her true nature before starting the show with GRRM.

 

I would think that with how sinister Ellaria is and as deadset as she was on revenge (which has been made very apparent since her first appearance), it's pretty easy to see her motivation for both killings. She knew the prince of Dorn would do nothing to avenge their family, and weak leaders do not make it on this show. Not to mention he was alerted to Jaime's daughter being killed, which was her and the sand snakes first stab at revenge. Doran would absolutely not have gone to war, and he would've done whatever he could to hold Ellaria responsible. Do you think they'd be able to carry out more revenge if they are jailed/killed by their leader? No. He had to die in order for her to carry out their plan. Do I really need to explain why his son needed to go too?

The sand snakes are also some of the best if not the best warriors Dorne has, the guards would not pick a fight with them. Some of the guards probably were even trained by them.

Your snide comment about people diffusing whiners and complainers was also dumb. It's a thread where people generally congregate to add substance to the conversation. Not go "this is bullshit, that is bullshit."

 

Wow, Dorne was disappointing. Doran and Hotah went out like suckers. And damn the Sand Snakes continue to be the worst

 

Well Doran can barely walk so I don't know what you were expecting him to do.

There is no way Areo would have died just by getting stabbed in the back though.

 

I mean, it's not like I expected him to fight. I just liked his character and wanted to see him explored more. Then again, this is Game of Thrones... no one is safe.

Def teared up with Sansa and Brienne. Good scene.

 

I enjoyed the premier. As someone stated before, it wasn't very deep; just set up the season moving forward. Though, I wished they focused on a few things more in-depth, than just touching on a little of everything.

 

Substance isn't solely glowing praise of the show.

The Sand Snakes certainly don't come off as the greatest warriors in Dorne, they spent the entirety of last season acting like whiny teenagers. If anything this show has told us that you have to be a tactile, patient leader, going headlong into war over revenge is sure death, which is what surely lies ahead for Dorne with Ellaria and the Sand Snakes in power.

I said my piece why I think it's an absurd plot, again avenging Oberyn by killing his family makes little sense in my mind, the action that required it doesn't fit with Oberyn's prior-actions (killing Marcella when Oberyn's explicitly said that they don't kill children in Dorne), plot aside all of this is anchored by poor dialogue, and mediocre acting.

It was so off-handedly done, killing off your family is one of the greatest treasons one can commit in Westeros, we see little of the plotting, it doesn't feel like this grand, terrible act that it should, (hell Trysten is killed and we get a comedic one liner immediately after).

 

I'm not totally convinced Hotah is dead. They showed Doran dying....Hotah not so much.

We'll see.

 

Didn't the knife enter at the bottom of the skull? That seems pretty fatal, to me.

Dorne aside I'm excited to see where the show goes this season, they've done a pretty good job with the North

 

Sorry, you're right. I was thinking of the thrown knife. Not sure where she stabbed Horan, but I don't see why it wouldn't be fatal.

 

aren't they still working off Martins notes and overall plan? Might not have books, but still have "source material"

 

My understanding is that GRRM told them how he is going to end the story and they're both taking different routes getting there.

 

Yup, Dorne and Winterfell were pretty big departures from what's already been written

 

I thought the episode was good. The Dorne subplot was superficial and rushed, but that's to be expected.

The dogs disappearing when Brienne showed up was a pretty glaring plot hole.

Her vocalizing every single movement during combat got old 3 seasons ago.

 

Jesus Christ you people find the dumbest things to nitpick. I swear some of you should look up pessimism and see if it reflects any other aspects of your life aside from Internet forums.

You can briefly see a soldier standing to the side with the hounds near Sansa as Brienne and Podric fought the guards. He's the last one to be killed and probably, idk, just let the fucking dogs go? Maybe the horses scared them? Who gives a fuck.

 

I was also thinking it got him in the back.

Dorne is really the only story arc I don't care about right now. The writing for that development seems rushed and lazy. If that really was the end of Hotah, then that's disappointing.
