Weird and gross answer but also a very awkward question to answer. "Hey I know you just got drafted to live your dream but how do you feel about dying early"

 

Definitely awkward to answer, but the news is as much "players havent truly accepted the likelihood of CTE" as much as anything, so its a good one to ask.

Feels like the next few years or so are gonna be very interesting for professional athletes to reckon with; both in terms of players becoming more vocal politically and socially, but also as the negative aspects of their sports get exposed. Especially if one of the leagues finally starts to peak in terms of TV ratings/TV contracts.

 

Nah I agree with you, you're right that it's a good question to ask. I just also feel like, as a rookie, you have very little media exposure as far as learning to handle interviews, so it's quite a curveball to answer and will likely result in very awkward answers haha.

 

And exactly the sort of questions that coaches and agents should be preparing them for; but they wont because actually discussing it might make players think "hey, maybe I dont need this"

 

Is that what the question was? I can't find it anywhere verbatim, but it could have just been "Do the CTE findings make you nervous to play?" or something

 

It's not the exact question, I'm definitely overexaggerating

 

I think we're going to see more and more players retiring before 30. There are a lot of players that still look at football as "the only way out" so it would be hard for them to turn down the chance at the NFL and collect at least that rookie contract.

 

So, I haven't read about it much but... do we know if it matters once you start playing in college? I've seen things like once you keep playing past high school there's no going back anyway. I know your brain doesn't fully develop until 25 but obviously people aren't gonna start playing that late and you could still get damage. I'm sure someone knows about this.

Don't know how to feel. Probably just a depth guy, can't be unhappy with that considering our safeties are just okay.
