After finishing it, the homophobic character makes complete sense. It didn't seem very realistic until towards the very end.

The other commentary throughout didn't last long and seemed normal or realistic enough for me lest I'm forgetting some things.

  2. Trying not to think that this would be as good as Breaking Bad, but can anyone at least confirm if it's better than shows like Bloodline or Dexter? As in, darker shows with a solid premise that also make a ton of mistakes

    alot better than Bloodline imo

Dexter can be pretty good idk and a lot of people like it.

Ozark is a whole lot more realistic than Dexter and that fits my tastes more. Allows the stakes to be higher, you can relate more to this family than Dexter, etc.

I've never seen Bloodline or Dexter, but this is nowhere near as good Breaking Bad or Fargo. Not even close.

This is enjoyable, but I wouldn't call it a "prestige TV" or anything

I think it fits in with prestige tv or whatever others call it. Whatever that is to others, it's mostly not very good imo all things considered whenever I sit down to watch those shows except for the 2 I've mentioned previously.

I REALLY loved the first season of Bloodline. The other 2 seasons...not so much. I don't know if this is better than the first season of Bloodline, but it's really close.

Same with Dexter, in my opinion, Dexter had some of my favorite seasons of television ever (seasons 4, 1, 2, 7 were all fantastic). But Dexter also had a lot of bad seasons as well.

I think Ozark was pretty good and has the potential to really be great. It sucks that we live in this binge-era where we don't really have a lot of time to dissect certain scenes, episodes or think long and hard about certain plots/reveals at certain points. Instead, it's all just a rush to finish it and we don't have time to let certain things sink in while we wait a week for the next episode.

    Still gotta watch the finale.

I wonder if I would have enjoyed this more watching it more spread out (an episode a week or whatever) - I really want to like it more, but something's holding me back.

Interview with Bateman discussing the ending of Season 1 and possibilities for Season 2. Spoilers, obviously.

‘Ozark’: Jason Bateman on Season 2 Plans and How to Make Viewers Believe the Unbelievable Can Happen

"In regard to Season 2, Bateman noted how he didn’t want to be presumptuous about a renewal, and he was very happy with how Season 1 ended.

There’s not some obnoxious cliffhanger,” he said. “I’m really, really proud of [showrunner] Chris [Mundy] and his staff; the way that they chose to wrap everything up in a pretty subtle way.”

But there are plans in place for Season 2.

“Obviously, there’s the opportunity for Marty to work very closely with the Snells and with Ruth,” Bateman said. “He’s got $50 million to wash now instead of $8 million. These huge escalations are going to present more complications and higher stakes for him. We’ve got the riverboat casino and probably some bureaucratic and civic challenges [associated with its operation]. We’re going to have some bad guys that are probably wearing ties next year as opposed to blue jeans. He might spend a little time up in St. Louis or Kansas City in pursuing some of these bigger deals that he’s going to need to accomplish to get this bigger number washed.”

Wow he's addressing plot straight up but he left out that cartel will come for blood after what happened

I think that's what he meant by 'bad guys wearing ties instead of blue jeans'

Ah yes I thought that would maybe be the political territory that comes with owning a casino. and the Feds. Ha

Enjoyed this a lot. Definitely no where near the best of what's out there right now but still a good show.

This was great. I can see the Breaking Bad comparisons a little bit but the whole vibe of the show was different to me. I thought it was a lot more tense.

I really liked how they didn't keep his situation a secret. Just straight up telling his wife and her telling the kids about the cartel. Straight up telling the pastor about the Snells and Rachel about the cartel after they caught him out. One of my least favourite things in TV is "I CAN'T TELL YOU TO PROTECT YOU!" bullshit like keeping superhero identities secret or even Walt hiding his stuff in Breaking Bad too.

Blowing Del's head off at the end was crazy too. I really feel like anyone could die at any time.

  16. First episode is solid. I'm in for a few more at least.

This was okay. First episode was by far the best. Not nearly as good as any of the shows it pretends to be. Bateman's good. I can't believe how terrible some of the lines were, "how did you not hear the vultures in our backyard?" Was a personal favorite of mine. Every villain has a lot of anectodes.

Julie Garner is great even when given nothing and every project she's in is super lucky to have her.

Just watched the first three and loved it. But I see a lot of people saying it's downhill from here. Still excited to finish it.

Enjoyed the first episode of this a lot. I felt the acting was particularly great, especially in that scene where Charlotte hugs Wendy. Excited to watch the rest

  22. I'm 4 episodes in and I'm in love. Bateman is so damn good.

I may be the only one who thought it went downhill.

Honestly, I don't think it was ever bad, and it does get "better" towards the end. I just had a few issues with some stuff in the middle 3-4 episodes.
