I don't get why Mark seems to have so much love for Built This Pool lol

 

Obviously, Mark, Travis and Matt had their say in the new album. I don't even think they were not the main songwriters and my issue really isn't that a producer co-wrote them - I don't care about that, what matters is how good the songs are.

That said, for anyone that has ever listened to any of those three guys' past music and to stuff produced by Feldmann, it's pretty clear that most of the bad elements came from him: the copy/paste feel, the ridiculous overuse of vocalizing, the mandatory "first thought best thought" approach to lyrics, the forced and generic "we are forgotten young suburbia" motto, etc. Plus we know the band was in a weird position and we've read countless times about Mark's writer's block/lack of confidence...

Feldmann also brought positive things (I love most of California), like returning Mark's voice to life and giving Matt that old raspy tone again, but now that the deluxe is out I think they went as far and as expansive as they could with him.

In the end, it's clear he doesn't get blink's romantic/lostful/earnest side, he sees them just as a shitty and goofy pop punk band, which is depressing.

 

After hearing "Orthodontist Girl" on the new Goldfinger record, "Built This Pool" is so much more bearable.

The record is actually pretty good though

 

Nothing is worse than "Deaf" on the Goldfinger. John Feldman is an absolute tool

Lol terrible. I didn't like Deaf but in the flow of the record I didn't mind it as much. Overall I really like the album. And Put The Knife Away was the only song that felt blink-ish for everyone who thought it was just gonna be Cali pt 3. Everything else is distinctly Goldfinger, and pretty good Goldfinger at that. Miles better than his last two.

 

Unfortunately haha. It's also extremely bad. Lyrics of Deaf are just so "old man yells at cloud" to me

Tom always says that his secret to writing a Blink song was writing a punk rock song with lullaby melodies. Blink can experiment all they want as long as they can still write catchy lullaby-like melodies to go over it, I think.

Guys, do I REALLY like Angels and Airwaves?? Adding in the BCR stuff sent my list over 15.

 

I didn't remember hearing ANYTHING about lullaby melodies until the HMNIM episode with John. Got a source? It was so weird to me that all of a sudden that was their calling card. It's not wrong but that's like the buzzword for this album cycle and I'm kinda sick of it TBH
