are we still lucky to be here? Prestigious

Most of the far NW side (Jefferson/Edison/Norwood/Portage Park) is clean and is still primarily working class. I'd wager that half of my neighbors are old Polish families and are police/firefighters/teachers.

Plus, having 1900 miles of alleys puts us ahead of NYC in terms of cleanliness by a country mile.

I think I just happen to live by people who just don't care. The furher eaat/north I go it seems to get better but there's a lot of streets near me that from time to time look like someone upended a garbage can down the entire block.

It sounds like Im hating on this city so much right now but I do really love it here.

    Give what you can.

Hah.. yea I was really only comparing to NYC and admittedly they set the bar pretty low. Even the wealthy/touristy parts were filthy when I lived there. Let's just say I've never walked by a stack of garbage bags taller than I am anywhere in Chicago. Like @swboyd said, thanks alleys! Also, Chicago people seem to know how to pick up after their dogs. That's a huge help.

Haha. I believe they finished construction but I don't think the T stop is open yet. I had to take the T home when I got back from Chicago and was immediately confused when I got to the airport. It's just a world of different.

Cleanliness was huge, couldn't believe how clean it was. I may or may not be seeking jobs in the area.

    Just a friendly reminder

None of the cities near me in Canada have public transportation more than barely functional. The CTA is remarkable to me.

Speaking of the CTA, the 74 bus I just got on smells like kraft mac and cheese. I don't think I want to know why.

That's heaven compared to the standard CTA smell.

I decided to take the bus instead of red line to blue mostly so I didn't have to walk through what I like to call the "piss tunnel" at Jackson. Ill def take the kraft mac and cheese smell over that.

The Bulls are the only professional sports team I need to see live to complete all the Chicago teams. Maybe next season!

Born on the southside. Half-raised there, half in the burbs. Couch surfed for 3 years around Logan and the Loop, then settled on the near West side for two years. I just moved to NYC though and am really missing Chicago. My place, my neighborhood, and my workplace was great. Now I pay more in rent, lost a 1,000 sqft in living space, I have no friends, and the mgmt at work is terrible. Although, I definitely prefer NYC's less segregated communities.

This storm is wild. I cant tell if its hailing or just the combination of the wind being so strong and the rain coming down so hard it sounds like hail.

Okay maybe it was hail then? It's crazy this city is so big that everyone didn't experience the same weather tonight.

I didn't even realize it rained last night until I went to take the trash out at like 11. Was too engrossed in TV. :/

My roommate moving out to get a place with her boyfriend, instantly stressed about finding a new place/roommate. My least favorite part about the city.

  22. I can relate to this. My roommate bailed on our plan to stay in our current place sort of last minute, so I ended up deciding to get a place with my girlfriend even though we have to live further out in the suburbs than I'd like because of her job. Hopefully your search doesn't take too long.

Ah, good luck. I know of someone looking for a roommate now but I don't dislike anyone enough to hook them up with him as a roommate.
